iOS 10 beta 3 will now warn you if liquid is detected in your Lightning port.

Screenshots of the new feature were posted to Imgur and shared on reddit by lucioghosty. When Apple detects that the Lightning port is wet the following prompt appears on screen...

Disconnect Lightning Accessory
Liquid has been detected in the Lightning connector. To protect your iPhone, disconnect this Lightning accessory and allow the connector to dry.

You're given the option to Ignore the message but if you select this option you are repeated asked to confirm your selection and warned that "Ignoring this message may cause irreparable damage to your iPhone".

Apple is rumored to be improving water resistance with the iPhone 7 and this feature may be part of those plans. At the very least, it could help prevent water damage to existing devices from liquid that may have gone unnoticed.

Sometimes your phone getting near water is inevitable... I found this thread today after I got this message after I got caught outside in the middle of a huge rain storm.... there was virtually nothing I could do to protect my phone other than have it in my pocket, which really didn't help it was raining so badly.

Seriously, not to troll but are you all aware samsung S7 already has that feature. It warns it when your when you pin is wet. I spilled a glass of water on my carpet and didn't realize my cable was laying in it. I plugged it in and didn't pay attention checked my phone a few minutes later to see the message saying my charge pin is we and to disconnect and dry first.

Maybe iOS 10 was developing this at the time s7 was released, but who knows? Maybe this was also made hinting at gully waterproof iPhone.

Here's the BIG QUESTION. Let's say that you get the warning about water in your lightning port. You then take care of it (i.e. you dry it out) and the warning goes away. Will your phone now have a PERMANENT log entry that Apple will later be able to access if you have any future problem with your phone? Will Apple use this to deny any warranty service?

No. Only jailbreak voids it.

Not true. Water damage clearly voids your warranty (unless you have Apple Care).

Couldn't have said it better myself... I guess i'm one of the lucky few who isn't stuck on an unjailbreakable iOS. 9.0.2 Jailbroken is > than any other available iOS. But even if i wasn't jailbroken, the consistency alone is worth sticking with apple. I just found out not too long ago that new updates (on Android) have to be issued by the carriers... that's INSANE.

I guess maybe there's not any sensor to detect water (maybe I'm wrong), so how is it possible to detect such these things ? Can you help me to improve my knowledge ?

Read the article on Apple insider and it explains how it probably works.

It likely detects that two of the data pins suddenly have a lower resistance between them (caused by water conducting some electricity between the pins). They already use various resistance values on the USB data pins to detect what kind of charger is connected, it wouldn't be hard to use the same circuitry to detect lower resistance values that water shorts cause.

Exactly ! It has been a long time coming and almost a year without Jailbreak iPhone is just an iPhone. You have to ask yourself what kind of device will truly make you happy. After long years with iPhone, I realized it seems to just same stuff other than some minor tweak here and there. And why am I allowing this company to decide what I want? There are other options out there. Explore technologically. Jailbreak is not dead but it has progressed very slow because of iOS incosistency and the programmer have had a hard time keeping up with.

Or you could care less about how better off you are without jailbreak which means not risking it to become android levels of insecure. It's not crap either way!

Yeah, since I switched to using S7 I am learning the pros and cons of Android. Despites some of the negatives the positive outweight it. I may go back to iPhone when the 8 is release but until then I'm gonna try to explore the other side of the technology. It's not nearly as perfect as the iPhone but its manageble than my previous experiences with Android.

I'm sure if you offer the couple developers who have a 9.3.x Jailbreak some cash (at least $100k) they might let you use theirs, if not, you'll have to wait for leftover scraps like the rest of us.
