Yeah, I can't get the 7.1.2 firmware because all these links end up at Akamai, which isn't caching the files for Apple anymore...

Safari works fine for these downloads; and you do not need to disable 'auto-unzip.' Just look in the trash after the download is complete. Your unzipped file will be there.

None of these links are working for me. I need 6.0 for a 4G Ipod Touch but every link I find redirects to a part of Apple's website which seems to be down and has been all day. Is anyone else having this issue?

Try a different browser. I use chrome for some stuff and explorer for others. Some times certain files don't like certain browsers.

What's the error that's happening. And what program are you using. 6.1 is no longer being signed so if your using I tunes without blobs it ain't gonna work. U need 6.1.2 if you didn't save your shsh blobs for the iOS version your trying to install. If you did a OTA update and saved your shsh it won't work. You need a iTunes restore on what ever version you need blobs for what version your on. Again if you don't have the shsh blobs its to late to get from older iOS versions. They need saved when apple is stil signing that software or it will not work. You need to update to the most rescent version via iTunes restore not OTA update and go get tiny umbrella and save your shsh blobs while u stil can

I have a NON-jailbroken 4th Generation iPod Touch (32GB) running IOS 4.2.1. I've never upgraded IOS because I have some quirky apps (usually SIP apps) that initially broke under IOS 4.3.X. I now want to upgrade IOS, but in "baby steps." iTunes only offers-up the most current version of IOS (6.X). Not interested in going there right now, at least unless I can revert back to where I am now. Q1: How, using one of these "restore.ipsw" files, can I upgrade my iPod to, for example, 4.3.5> Q2: How can I fully back-up my current set-up? Q3: Assuming I can do the above full backup, how could I restore that backup so that I end up right where I am now if things should go tits-up with an upgrade? Boy: would it be nice to be able to image and restore the iPod, just like I can do with any computer...

I usually back up to iCloud and when I restore it from the cloud it's usually identical to what I had saved before upgrading. Only stuff u may need to reapply would be your media like music or videos not sure if it does automatically its been a long time since I did a restore. Pretty sure what apps your backing up and everyone else's should go back to what you had saved. I

You can't go baby steps. The way the restore works is that your iPod is encrypted with a special key(the shsh kinda) each firmware(4.2.1) has to be signed from apple for each device when it does the restore in order for the iPod to be able to understand the restore files(if you change .ipsw to .zip you'll be able to view all the files in the restore because it's not encrypted). And apple only gives out the current(6.1.6) shsh signature for your device. Some people have gotten around this by catching these shsh back when apple was currently giving them out and sending to cydia(jailbreak) servers. It sounds like you haven't been doing this. You could also use redsn0w to extract a partial encryption key that could be used to restore your current 4.2.1 but it's a little hard and you can only jump from 6.1.6 to 4.2.1 and then back again. No way to go to anything else besides those two

If u download an ipsw do u have to save ur shsh in order to downgrade Need an answer please!!!
Camelnuts
Camelnuts - October 19, 2012 at 12:29pm
You need you shsh to downgrade. The only time u don't need the shsh is if apple has that ispw still being signed. Ie 6.0 is what apple is on now so you done need the shsh to use that firm ware. As soon as the next firm ware comes out ie 6.01 or 6.1 you need your shsh for any firmware other then the most recent still being signed from apple.

If you install a firewall you will get a prompt just after you've pressed the Restore button on iTunes. Maybe with that you can get the URL. Just search for the ipsw on your Mac or i believe that is located on the Library/Application Support/iTunes Greetings

Can anyone help me? I have been reluctant to post as I'm afraid to appear dumb, but I'd rather ask for help than ruin my iPod.... I am a little confused as how to jailbreak my iPod Touch 8gb to the 2.2. I currently have 1.1.5 (4B1).... I honestly don't know if it is first or second gen....I always just put music on it and listen to it in my Scion, never paid much attention to anything else about it until now! I downloaded 1.1.4 (4A102) from http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/ and it is installed in my PC.... But, when I open it, all it does is open iTunes then iTunes asks me if I was to restore it back to factory.... Can anyone help me PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE.... I think it is just stupid to have to PAY anything to update your iPod when you already pay so much for it in the first place. They are NOT cheap....lol. Not to mention that it is a FREE update with people lucky enough to already have newer software.... Can anyone PLEASE help me?

if you are trying to add the firmware on a mac you need to press and hold option(alt) then press the restore button on itunes and select your firmware if you are on a pc do the same process but dont hold option while clicking restore, hold shift. Your Welcome

Thanks you so much. I nearly had to send back my ipod touch 2g back to Sony to have it repaired because it was not restoring using the restore button on itunes. The ipod touch file from this site really worked. The only thing is that you must restore it to the version you had on the system before it crashed. Any other file wouldn't work. Thanks again.
