New details about Apple's rumored foldable iPhone have allegedly leaked online. The information, shared by user @Jukanlosreve on X, is said to come from a supply chain research summary by zwz. As of yet, no other sources have corroborated the report.
The device is said to feature a large folding mechanism on the left rear side. When closed, it reportedly measures 9.2 mm in thickness, with each side being 4.6 mm individually. The internal screen is supposedly comparable in size to two 6.1-inch phones placed together, resulting in a total size of over 12 inches. However, this 12-inch reference is likely inaccurate, as two 6.1-inch displays side by side would have a diagonal measurement of approximately 7.5 inches.
According to the report, Apple is planning to launch the foldable iPhone in fall 2026, followed by a foldable iPad or MacBook in 2027. Foxconn's exclusive New Product Introduction (NPI) phase is supposedly set for June 2025, with mass production expected to begin in late 2025 or early 2026. The focus is said to be on larger foldable devices rather than compact models.
Projected sales estimates suggest 8 to 10 million units in 2026, increasing to 20 million in 2027. Foxconn is reportedly handling initial production exclusively, with Luxshare joining the process the following year.
The display is said to be exclusively developed by Samsung, incorporating a material called "UTG Blue," which is still in research and development, with an estimated cost of $90 to $100. The support frame may be made from titanium alloy, stainless steel, or carbon fiber, with samples provided by Lingyi. The final choice has yet to be determined, but costs are expected to range in the tens of dollars.
The hinge is described as an Apple-designed solution, with an assembled cost of approximately $110. Amphenol and Taiwan's Xinyiheng are named as component suppliers, while Lingyi is reportedly supplying internal parts at around $35. MIM components are estimated to cost between $10 and $20, with Zhengyan involved in production.
The midframe is expected to be made of aluminum, priced between $80 and $90. Foxconn (Fulin) is said to be handling the exclusive NPI phase, while LanSi and BYD Electronics are anticipated to join as secondary suppliers during mass production.
For the printed circuit board (PCB), the flexible board's value is expected to increase by 70%, while the module board's value could nearly double. The substrate-like PCB (SLP) is expected to incorporate resin-coated copper (RCC), increasing its value by 40%, from $12 to $18.
Regarding optics, the front camera is said to feature Apple's "Meta Lens ultra-thin technology," with lens suppliers including Largan, Sunwoo, and Lantega. Foxconn and LG are reportedly involved in module development. The rear cameras are expected to use a hybrid glass-plastic structure, with Largan as the primary lens supplier and Sunwoo contributing to substitute glass production.
The battery is rumored to feature two stainless steel-cased cells, supplied by Steel Shell Xinwei and Lingyi, with a total capacity of around 5000 mAh. The battery cells are said to be 3D-stacked and developed exclusively by ATL.
While these details offer an interesting look at what Apple's foldable iPhone could be, their accuracy is uncertain. If Apple does plan to unveil a foldable iPhone next year, we'll likely hear a lot more about it over the next year.
