Apple has updated its list of vintage and obsolete products, officially ending hardware service for several older Mac models, including the last 11-inch MacBook Air. The company also moved the iPhone 8 Plus to its vintage list.
Products are considered "vintage" by Apple once five years have passed since the company stopped distributing them for sale. Vintage products are still eligible for repairs at Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers, subject to parts availability. After seven years, they are moved to the "obsolete" list, and Apple discontinues all hardware service for them.
With this latest update, the MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2015) is now considered obsolete. Two 2017 MacBook Pro models have also been moved to the obsolete list: the 13-inch model with four Thunderbolt 3 ports and the 15-inch model.
Separately, the iPhone 8 Plus, which Apple first released in 2017 alongside the iPhone X, has been added to the vintage list. This means repairs will still be offered for up to two more years, depending on the availability of parts.
