Apple is shaking up its executive ranks as longtime COO Jeff Williams prepares to retire, with a new Bloomberg report detailing expanded roles for services chief Eddy Cue and software head Craig Federighi.
Services chief Eddy Cue will reportedly take over Apple's health and fitness teams, a move that comes as the company prepares to launch a new Health+ subscription service next year. Under the new structure, the health and fitness groups will be consolidated under Sumbul Desai, who will now report to Cue. This also places Fitness+ head Jay Blahnik, who was the subject of a recent New York Times report and lawsuit, under Desai's management.
Craig Federighi's responsibilities are growing as well, with the software engineering chief now set to oversee watchOS. This is his second major expansion this year, after he took control of Siri when its most advanced features were delayed until 2026.
The reorganization is tied to the retirement of COO Jeff Williams, who announced in July he would step down at the end of the year. With his departure, hardware engineering chief John Ternus will assume sole control of Apple Watch hardware. Ternus is already seen by many as a leading contender to eventually succeed Tim Cook as CEO.
Bloomberg's report suggests more changes could be coming. The status of AI chief John Giannandrea is reportedly uncertain, while environmental head Lisa Jackson and chip chief Johny Srouji have also reportedly considered their futures at the company.
