Apple's software announcements at today's Worldwide Developers Conference will serve as a critical test for the company's long-term artificial intelligence strategy, according to TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
In a post on X, Kuo said recent supply chain checks point to solid business performance for Apple through the end of the year. This stability continues to bolster a prevailing market consensus that the company will ultimately catch up and pull ahead in the AI race, despite its slower start. Observers are treating Apple's current hardware success as a baseline, assuming that future artificial intelligence additions will only strengthen the company's position following a quarter where it managed to lead global smartphone shipments without them.
According to Kuo, the key takeaway from WWDC26 will not be the immediate stock reaction, but whether Apple demonstrates a path toward delivering better AI experiences than competitors using the same underlying technology. A key question is whether Apple can use the same underlying Gemini technology to deliver better AI applications, agentic workflows, and hybrid on-device and cloud experiences than Google itself.
If Apple succeeds in building a superior user experience on top of Gemini, it reinforces the belief that the company's deep hardware and software integration will win out in the end. However, if the implementation falls short, it suggests that Gemini effectively sets a hard ceiling for Apple's AI capabilities. Such a result would bring increased scrutiny to the belief that Apple will ultimately come out ahead.
Apple is widely expected to showcase a revamped Siri experience and new AI-related developer tools during its keynote, providing the first detailed look at how the company plans to execute on its next phase of Apple Intelligence.
