Apple could bring back a ceramic case for the Apple Watch Series 12, according to leaker Kosutami. In a post on X, the account wrote, "Hell yeah, Ceramic [Apple logo] Apple Watch is back. We'll see it at Series 12." The claim follows a recent report from Mark Gurman, who said Apple was considering bringing back a ceramic case this year or in 2027.
If the rumor proves accurate, ceramic would return after a six-year absence. Apple first introduced the material with the Apple Watch Edition Series 2 in 2016, offering a white finish made from compressed zirconia and alumina powder that was marketed as four times harder than stainless steel. Apple added a gray ceramic option with the Series 3. The Edition line disappeared for the Series 4 before white ceramic returned with the Series 5. Apple discontinued ceramic again with the Series 6 in 2020. Since then, ceramic models have become sought after by collectors.
The Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 are expected to be announced at Apple's September event alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first foldable iPhone. While the Series 12 is not expected to be a major redesign, a returning ceramic case would be among its most noticeable changes if the rumor proves accurate, alongside a new chip and other modest hardware upgrades. Apple has not offered a ceramic Apple Watch since the Series 5 Edition debuted in 2019.
