Apple is expected to announce a new Readiness app for Apple Watch at its September 9 event, according to Mark Gurman. The reporter described it as a variant of the existing Vitals app meant to better compete with software from Whoop and Oura.
Signs of the app had already surfaced in beta code. MacRumors forum member pdfu found identifiers for Readiness and Cobalt in iOS 27 and watchOS 27, with the Watch app listed separately from Vitals and placed immediately after Workout in the default Home Screen order. The app itself is absent from the betas, leaving its interface and feature set unknown.
Introduced with watchOS 11, Vitals brings together overnight health metrics including average heart rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygen where available, wrist temperature, and sleep duration. Oura, meanwhile, generates a daily Readiness Score from 0 to 100 showing how prepared the wearer is for the day. Gurman did not detail how Apple's app would calculate readiness.
The Readiness app is expected to be announced alongside the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 at the 'Surprise and Shine' event. Both watches are also rumored to add continuous heart rate sensing outside workouts.
