Redesigned MacBook Pro Said to Be 'Significantly Lighter' [Gurman]
Apple's redesigned high-end MacBook Pro is expected to be significantly lighter than the current models, according to Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter.

Engineers have miniaturized parts and rearranged components inside the machine to make it easier to carry. The current 16-inch model weighs up to 4.8 pounds, compared with 3.3 pounds for the 15-inch MacBook Air. Specific weights for the redesigned notebooks were not provided.
The machines are already being tested with macOS 27.2, and are expected to arrive by November. That would bring a second high-end notebook update in 2026 after the M5 Pro and M5 Max models introduced in March.
The overhaul also brings an OLED display and touch input to the Mac for the first time, along with a Dynamic Island. Earlier reporting described 14-inch and 16-inch versions with a thinner enclosure and a small webcam cutout replacing the current notch.
Software changes in macOS Golden Gate will support touch and the new display cutout. Plans described earlier include controls that enlarge after a tap, contextual menus near the finger, and support for scrolling and pinch-to-zoom.
The notebook will retain its keyboard and trackpad, with touch providing another way to navigate macOS. Apple is not building the redesign around typing on the screen or turning it into a Mac-iPad hybrid.
