Google Unveils Fitbit Edge With AI Health Coaching and Seven-Day Battery Life
Google has unveiled Fitbit Edge, a new fitness tracker that combines an OLED touchscreen with AI health coaching and a repairable design.

The tracker sits between the screenless Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch in the company's wearable lineup. It works with iPhones running iOS 16.4 or later and Android phones running Android 11 or later, using the Google Health app and a Google Account.
An aluminum case measures 11.5mm thick, with a physical side button for actions such as pausing a workout. Google says the Hybrid OLED display offers 46% more viewing area than previous Fitbit trackers, while the case is 45% lighter than the Apple Watch Series 12. A redesigned interface brings tiles, customizable watch faces, Google Maps, media controls, and call and message notifications.
For workouts, the exercise app supports more than 50 modes, with on-screen guidance for pace, heart rate zones, and splits. Built-in GPS records routes without a phone, and an altimeter tracks elevation changes. Automatic activity detection can recognize up to 100 workout types.
Health tracking includes continuous optical heart rate monitoring, an on-wrist ECG app, and a dedicated skin temperature sensor. Sleep stages, heart rate variability, and overnight temperature changes contribute to recovery insights each morning. ECG availability varies by country.

Google Health Coach can explain changes in those patterns and adapt a fitness plan, but requires a Google Health Premium subscription. Health Guardian features also track blood pressure and insulin resistance trends and provide high and low heart rate alerts. Availability varies by region and device, and the trend features are intended for general wellness, not real-time clinical readings or diagnosis.
Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 also offer a Readiness score, combining activity, sleep, and vital signs into an assessment that updates throughout the day.
Battery life is rated at up to seven days, based on testing with Battery Saver settings; enabled features and usage will affect endurance. A five-minute charge can provide a full day of use when the battery is low. The device is rated for water resistance to 50 meters, and its modular internal design and replaceable battery make it Google's first repairable fitness tracker.

Four finishes are available: Obsidian with a matte black case, Fog with polished silver, Olive with satin pyrite, and Canyon with warm gold. Optional bands include Active Sport, Performance Loop, Magnet, and Metal Links styles. A Stephen Curry Special Edition pairs rye tones with orange and costs $219.99.
Fitbit Edge starts at $179.99 in the U.S. and is available to preorder on Amazon ahead of its October 27 release. Purchases include three months of Google Health Premium.
