Apple Releases AirPods Firmware 9.1 Beta 2 to Developers

Apple has released AirPods Firmware 9.1 beta 2 for developer testing. The update carries build number 9B5043a.

The release arrives alongside the fourth developer betas of iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2. We'll let you know if we discover any notable changes in the new firmware.

Earlier AirPods Firmware 9 betas included support for custom EQ controls, an Adaptive mode slider, and a redesigned AirPods settings interface.

Testers can enable AirPods Beta Updates from the Bluetooth settings for their paired headphones on a device running an iOS 27 or macOS 27 beta. Apple's beta installation instructions explain how to enroll supported models.

Once installed, AirPods beta firmware cannot be removed or downgraded. The headphones remain on the beta software until a newer non-beta firmware version is released.
