CultofMac has published an exclusive report stating that T-Mobile USA is very close to getting the iPhone in the fall.
According to a highly placed source at the wireless company, talks between Apple and T-Mobile are at an advanced stage with an 80 percent likelihood that the T-Mobile will get the device in Q3.
The source works at T-Mobile but asked not to be quoted directly and to remain anonymous because they arent authorized to talk to the press. T-Mobiles parent company, Deutsche Telekom, which carries the iPhone in Germany, was able to influence, the source said. T-Mobile USA is the fourth-largest U.S. carrier with 33.7 million customers.
Although most of the discussion involving another carrier centers around Verizon, some analysts think it would be simpler for Apple to go with T-Mobile given its use of similar cellular technology. Also, Verizon has strongly aligned itself with Google, heavily marketing Android phones, and even mocking Apple and the iPhone.

Damn. That means we can't rip off... Er... Profit off of T-mo customers w/ selling unlocked iPhones for 3x their value. Thanks Apple, lol.

no actually with tmobile it will be better cause tmobile has started rolling out their new 3g speeds in some areas and it just blow att 3g. thats what i read on wall street journal the other day. n that is why att isn't claiming to have fastest 3g in their new ads anymore.

No offense meant, but... 4,480,123,416 GSM users worldwide against a few CDMA in the US makes no sense on investing for the rollover of any phone.
Verizon / Sprint and a few carriers around the world will have to upgrade themselves to the common-path LTE before actually thinking on having the iPhone. Is not just about commercial alliances, but also due to technical decisions.

Wow a rumor of iPhone going to another carrier... That's rare.
Bottom line is that the iPhone is currently not compatible with tmobile's 3G so it would be edge only and simply not worth it. No, I don't think this is happening now. Maybe next June.

Even if it is true, they will develop the iPhone 4 and change the 3G signal to work with T-Mobile.

I wonder how this will impact Tmobile's current unlimited data plans...
