Apple Removes Attenuation Videos From Its Site

Posted August 1, 2010 at 2:17pm by iClarified
Apple has removed videos from its site that show phones from different manufacturers being affected by attenuation when held a certain way.

The company now focuses on reassuring customers that Apple thoroughly tested the iPhone 4 in the lab and in the field.

Every smartphone has a cellular antenna. And nearly every smartphone can lose signal strength if you hold it in a certain way. To make sure our antennas work as well as they possibly can, Apple has invested more than $100 million building its advanced labs. Our engineers have logged thousands of hours designing and testing iPhone 4 in these state-of-the-art facilities.

It's thought that Apple has removed these videos in an attempt to put antennagate behind them.

i thought those videos was very immature and unprofessional. if this a problem for other devices how come none of the owners those devices complained? my mother has the blackberry bold 9700 and has NEVER experienced the issue. apple should have owned up to the mistake during their press conference, not arrogantly dismiss it as a common problem because it's not. if htc/motorola etc released a video claiming a half-truth about an apple product apple would have sued.

I found the 3GS attenuation video very helpful. I always have low signal on my 3GS, because I hold it in my left hand against my palm. Now I can use just 3 fingers when I need to keep signal. And seeing that the nokia and droid phones have the same problem, made me realize the iPhone4 is no worse. so I think the videos help existing customers a lot, and actually help apples reputation by showing their phones are not any worse at holding signal than other brands

btw, I do not use a case on my iPhone 3GS. People who use a case dont have the signal loss problem

100 million bucks down the drain and thousands of hours wasted. Apple can't undo this damage by saying how much effort they put into making the antenna. It just shows the epic fail

I couldn't agree more with this comment, but why does the iPhone 4 continues to fly off the shelves? And because Job's was so paranoid about leaking their elegant but totally predictable design, they covered the antenna so that they could "real world" test; incognito. This should go down in history as one of the most ego-maniac design flaws in history and the most insignificant high-profile PR campaign ever because this debacle would have spelled disaster for any other company. This is one for the textbooks. I love it!

I must concur with both of you. I'm certain Apple heard/read our comments on their pathetic damage control campaign/effort. Their rationalization made them stoop to a lower level. Most loyal Apple customers would have been satisfied with Acknowledgement (problem, acceptance, honesty), Repair (diagnosis and fix), and Resolution (timeline results, customer satisfaction).
