Android is Now the Most Popular OS Among Recent Buyers

Posted October 5, 2010 at 11:28am by iClarified
According to August data from The Nielsen Company, Android is now the most popular operating system among people who bought a smartphone in the past six months, while Blackberry RIM and Apple iOS are in a statistical dead heat for second place among recent acquirers.

The Nielsen data covers a period that includes a full-month of iPhone 4 availability.

Among all smartphone owners, Blackberry still holds the dominant share with 31 percent of the market, though its lead over Apple is declining. Twenty-eight percent of smartphone owners have Apple iPhones, compared to 19 percent who have Android devices.

Learn to read graphs pple Clearly The number one is Blackberry then iPhone then droid...based on the graph Droid line has been under all the others for 5/6 months on that graph therefore it still sucks (based on 6 months sales as depicted by the graph) pple just bought the droid last couple months coz the iPhone was too much in demand n they couldnt wait for 3-8wks for the shipment. The iPhone ships in 5 days now Droid only had more sales than the other 2 for 1 month so no reason to celebrate n talk as if droid has taken over the market. Need another 6 month graph t see if droid can hold top dawg position for more than 2 months. Especially with the holiday season coming up.

But it's true. 70% of the first buyers of iPhone 4 are users of previous versions

But it's true. The only reason Android users get a new Android phone is because it craps out on us everytime. We buy a new one hoping its better, but most of the time its not.

I've recently left iPhone for HTC Desire. Had 3g, 3gs & iP4. Sold iP4 after crap recetion/data speeds. The OS in the iPhone is becoming boring as well. I'm glad I have changed, my phone does everything an iPhone did and it's much more fun. I like apple hardware like most people but I cannot support a company that treats it's customers like apple have done in the last year.

Had the 3g and the 3gs and honestly...my HTC Desire wipes the floor with both of them, only thing I miss is the App store but even then the Android market is catching up

You just miss the critical mass around the iPhone. The widest developer community for handhelds after the PalmOS Community. And Android will be always going behind.
