According to the chronicwire (chronic), new Macbook Airs are not headed to Apple Stores Wednesday, but instead, unlocked iPhones!
Last night, we reported that chronic expects refreshed Macbook Airs Wednesday, along with Apple's back to school promotion. Now it seems that chronic's source had part numbers mixed up, and unlocked iPhone's will actually be headed to stores across the US.
Last week, AT&T's CEO actuallythought that they sold unlocked iPhones if you bought the iPhone without a contract. Perhaps he was confused with this recent information?
If unlocked iPhones are indeed coming to US Apple stores, this will be great news for both AT&T users who travel a lot and T-Mobile users who want to use the iPhone with T-Mobile Service (Without 3G).

We here in Canada have had unlocked iPhone's (bought at Apple stores & on-line) for over a year now! Drive on up and get yourself one!

ALL LIES APPLE WOULD RELEASE AN UNLOCKED IPHONE THAT WOULD SUPPORT 3G FOR TMOBILE AND ALL OTHER CARRIERS BECAUSE WITHOUT 3G ITS JUST LIKE AN ULTRASN0W UNLOCK! AND WHY IS IT THAT OTHER CARRIER PHONES LIKE ON TMOBILE THAT ARE UNLOCKED AND YOU CAN INSERT A TMOBILE SIM AND GET 3G BUT YOU CANT TAKE A TMOBILE SIM AND INSERT IN AN IPHONE AND GET 3G. SHOULDEN'T THE IPHONE AUTOMATICALLY SEARCH THE FREQUENCY WAVES OF THE TOWERS?

first of all there is "caps lock" button on the keyboard - depress it and you'll be able to type normally.
second, it's impossible to understand what you talking about!

what i meant is that lets say you have a tmobile phone that you get imei unlocked. Now if you take a AT&T sim and put it in the tmobile phones automatically finds the frequency waves of the network in order to work with 3g and the cellular network now if you took a tmobile sim card and yes when the at&t imei unlock for iphone was out i got one i took my sim put it in and you cant get any 3g even though it is imei unlocked! got my logic?

I have Simple mobile and my iPhone 4 is still running on Edge. Please help.

It has to be jail broken.Anything you do to an Apple Iphone outside of having AT&T or Verizon as a service provider you have to first jailbreak it.Its what opens up the Apple files in the phone to configuration.

What the hell are you talking about. For him to use the phone with tmobile USA, it must be unlocked and for it to be unlocked it has to be jailbroken first. All iPhones can only use tmobile USA edge network because they are not compatible with tmobile USA's 3G frequency.

If this is true, then there's no worry for an unlock since 03.10.01 have no hopes for it

This would be nice, but the mini-SIM cards that iPhone 4's use would make it more difficult. The travelers should keep a SIM card cutter in their bags.

Mr.D - June 12, 2011 at 7:11pm
Most carriers worldwide have the micro-SIMs. No need to carry a SIM card cutter.

Just use Simple Mobile then.

Hey, what do you think about who will win the Champions League?
0
HJ - June 12, 2011 at 6:18pm
wow, its like as if apple really is trying to go as far as possible to avoid the need for jailbreaking, considering a lot of people jailbreak for the sole purpose of unlocking.

HJ - June 12, 2011 at 6:47pm
r u serious? every firmware currently can be jailbroken, and EVENTUALLY... there'll be an unlock for the later basebands as well. so yea... people will keep jailbreaking for the software unlock. so if apple sells unlocked iPhones, a certain demographic of people who usually jailbreak only for unlocking, won't need to.

DigiHead - June 12, 2011 at 6:52pm
jailbreaking is one thing, unlocking another.
ok, then tell me how to unlock iphone 4 on iOS 4.3.3 w baseband 04.10.01 or iphone 3gs on iOS 4.3.3 w baseband 05.16.02?

this your freakin "eventually" doesnt work for a quite a while! if don't know a shit about that then don't make any "smart" statements. if need to unlock it now, then waiting on the guys who "maybe" "someday" will unlock it is useless. when was last time when iphone 4 was possible to unlock?
0
Madcow - June 13, 2011 at 12:15am
You need to jailbreak to unlock. If it's unlocked that's one less reason to jailbreak. That's what he meant.
I hope this isn't true until iPhone 5 so my 3GS can retain it's value

If this is true I will be pissed as I bought my phone outright the first day...

Who cares about lock & unlocked crap. How about apple lowers their iPhone prices?! I really wanna upgrade to an iPhone 4 or 5 in the near future but since I'm not on AT&T/ Verizon I have to pay 599 for the cheapest iPhone 4. That is RIDICULOUS.
0
DigiHead - June 12, 2011 at 6:44pm
what is ridiculous? that you don't have enough money? or not enough brain to sell your old iphone add some money and get new one? fair price for op end device!

ljrestrada - June 12, 2011 at 8:24pm
you can use an iphone 4 with Simple Mobile and get 4G service for $40 MONTH

not true. I called an Apple store and they said it was not happening.
0
gentster - June 12, 2011 at 6:31pm
No, you didn't!!! Do you think Apple stores would tell u anything about this? Even if this were true, they wouldn't even know before Wednesday.
0
ljrestrada - June 12, 2011 at 8:30pm
I did.I spoke with the manager and he was completely surprised. As a manager he would know and I doubt would have made a show especially when I wanted to pre order 50 of them.

Don't be silly.... Apple employees are often the last people to know anything about stuff going on. Just the other day, a senior employee was telling me how the iPad 2 AT&T models were only usable in the US, and couldn't be used outside. All I did was smile at her and walk out...
We shall just have to wait and see on Wednesday...

Dream on!

DigiHead - June 12, 2011 at 6:49pm
it's happening not thru updates. you have to ask for unlocking your network provider. when they confirm that phone is unlocked, you put different sim in your iphone, it'll show "connect to itunes" sign, then connect to itunes and after a while itunes will show you something like "congratulations! your iphone is unlocked"
at least this is hoe it works in UK. I've unlocked quite few iphones from o2.
