3.4GHz i7 iMac With 256GB SSD May Be the Fastest Mac Ever [Video]

Apple has started shipping its 3.4GHz i7 iMac with a 256GB Solid State Drive, reports MacRumors.

Macworld recently benchmarked this computer as the fastest Mac they've ever tested. Even faster than the current Mac Pros.

This $2699 BTO iMac takes the top-of-the-line standard configuration iMac—a $1999 27-inch 3.1GHz Core i5 quad-core model with a 1TB 7200-rpm hard drive—and replaces the processor and hard drive. The upgrade to a 3.4GHz Core i7 adds $200 to the price. And the 256GB SSD is an extra $500.

The 27-inch 3.4GHz Core i7 iMac with SSD is the fastest Mac we've tested. The previous Speedmark 6.5 record holder was a build-to-order Mac Pro with a 3.33GHz Xeon Westmere six-core processor, 8GB of RAM, and a price of $4074. Add a 27-inch Apple LED Cinema Display and the price jumps to $5073.

The video below shows the new iMac opening all its standard apps at record speed. Take a look!

the whole thing was fast forward it if u see the icons when they are jumping they dont move that fast even if your mac has 3.4GHz i7 iMac With 256GB SSDt the icons will probably jump once and then open the program so i call it a fake one

My PC opens programs just as fast and I paid 1/4 of that price. It has nothing to do with the fact that it's a MacBook and everything to do with the fact that it is using SSD.

So you paid under $700 (1/4 of the iMac's price)? And still managed to get a pc with an ssd? I doubt that very much. Of course it has nothing to do with it being a MacBook, because it's an iMac not a MacBook. This post was not a comparison of a Mac to a pc but of a Mac to the former record holding Mac. The figure below the post clearly shows the difference a SSD makes.

+1 for Kenny. More people hating on Apple and their innovation. Everyone has positives on both sides, leave it at that.

fine a 1/3 of the price. 900 can get you an i7 with a SSD drive, smaller than 250 but large enough for you OP and programs. Plus I'm not sure how easy it is to overclock (or possible) on a mac but it's very simple to do on a pc and that i7 can clock from 3.4 to 4.8 or even 5ghz on air! It's funny if you think this is all apple's innovation when it's the ssd drive and intel's chip. Apple computers are very nice though but they are severely overpriced. I'm don't need to pay for a name.

Apple makes it's money from hardware, Microsoft makes it's money from software. With Apple you aren't paying extra just for the pretty fruit logo. Sure you make be able to get better spec if you're building your own pc, but Apple products are put together so well, you're getting a work of art as well as a great reliable computer. You don't see any Acer's or Dell's with the sort of build quality that Apple can offer. Some people don't like using computers that look like some fifth grader put it together with leftover lego parts.
