Quake Available on Cydia for iPhone 2.0

Quake Available on Cydia for iPhone 2.0

Posted July 27, 2008 at 1:33pm by iClarified
ZodTTD has ported Quake to the iPhone and it is now available via Cydia on the iPhone 2.0 firmware.

Apple's release of the 2.0 firmware has set the jailbroken community back; however, slowly but surely developers are revamping their applications to be compatible with the new firmware.

An onslaught of jailbroken applications will likely become available in the near future.

@ ATTNCK - you're definitely right. The place here is probably not ideal for discussions ;-) The irc idea is very good - thanks. Hope to get in touch with some guys interested in ideas there! Regards R.

@ATTNCK - thanks for your answer. Please let me give a short reply. I did try almost all of your suggestions, but look at the parentheses (((()))). This is not the place to complain about such things. - (((Where else would you advice me to publish suggestions if you want to reach possible authors? Here I've got some readers, at least))) Too short SMS/EMail/Calendar vibra alerts for instance? ***A: Install the "SMSNotify" Application. The iPhone will vibrate every 15seconds till you read the message. (((This software is completely buggy and unreliable, I almost killed my vibra once when it just didn't stop vibrating for half an hour or so - thanks god I found it right before... With the 1.1.4 software there was a tool asvibra 2 from the sendowski source which did the change. Hope this is ported soon.)))) ****I miss a function to repeat alarms until I confirm them, too, as it was offered on the Treo. ***A: There is an Application for this too, it's called "RemindYou". (((RemindYou only shows Meetings etc. on the display, but does not repeat alarms every X minutes with sound and/or vibra until confirmation like the Treo does.))) And what about "spotlight" for iPhone? ***A: Can't think of why you would need this on the iphone (Sorry I'm not a Mac User.) but there are plenty of File System Browsers, and might even be something close to Spotlight. ((((Definitely not - did you ever need data of an appointment you had in the past (if you you forgot that person's name or so...), or an e-mail you got three weeks ago and you wanted to look for some information in that message? Treo: Ten seconds. iPhone: You're lost in a stack of two hundred mails or so...)))) And what about timer-controlled flight mode at night to save energy? ***A: I'm not sure about a timer controlled flight mode, but I do know there are a few apps that allow you shut off the features that use the up the most power, like SSH, Wi-Fi, BlueTooth etc.. (((These are all manually, I'm looking for the automated solution I had had on the Treo for four years...))) And why is there no one to drill a hole into the completely nailed down Bluetooth functionality to offer file or business card transfer or syncing etc.? ***A: It is possible, the limitation is in the Firmware/OS not the hardware and god only knows why apple has done this... There is an App that lets you share anything on the iPhone with another iPhone user as long as they too have the app but we all know this isn't good enough. (((ok, thought this might become hard))) where is the sync program that syncs all iPhone data over WiFi? ***A: It's called TimeMachine, you can find it in the Installer.app ;) (((TimeMachine for the iPhone does not sync over WiFi, it just gives you local backups on the iPhone)))) Also check out "NemusSync" if you use google calendar. (((Do you really believe I'd give my valuable data to Google for they can send me ads and save them forever? ;-( ))) And iPrank and iPhone PC Suite are great for PC users using a data cable (((I've already got iTunes with the data cable, another almost useless app...))). Where is the software to automatically connect VPN as soon as I am connected to a certain WiFi network? ***A: There are several VPN programs, though I haven't really used them so I'm not sure about this one. (((Having to connect VPN manually while the phone connects to WiFi automatically is the hassle))). Hope some of you guys out there read all this :-)!

**REGARDING POSTING** RolloM 2008-07-28 03:00:17 This is not the place to complain about such things. Further more if you did your research you would see that most of the stuff you complained about has already been fixed, some even along time ago, or the software exists to such things as Wi-Fi Data Transfer. Here are some quick answers to some of the complaints you made.... (Answers are marked with a "***A") Nice. But when will our real problems be solved? Too short SMS/EMail/Calendar vibra alerts for instance? ***A: Install the "SMSNotify" Application. The iPhone will vibrate every 15seconds till you read the message. Nice. But when will our real problems be solved? Too short SMS/EMail/Calendar vibra alerts for instance? (You miss them most of the time, so you can actually not use this phone in the real world... and it's just a modified file "away".) I miss a function to repeat alarms until I confirm them, too, as it was offered on the Treo. And what about "spotlight" for iPhone? And what about timer-controlled flight mode at night to save energy? And why is ther no one to drill a hole into the completely nailed down Bluetooth functionality to offer file or business card transfer or synching etc.? (Ok, more difficult...). Or where is the sync program that syncs all iPhone data over WiFi? (Seems a bit easier.) Where is the software to automatically connect VPN as soon as I am connected to a certain WiFi network? (Doing this manually is a REAL hassle - why can't it be automated?) And so on...

With the upcoming iControlPad being released I would like to see the on screen control pad disabled when connected to the iControlPad.
