AT&T today announced new data plans for smartphone and tablet customers that will launch this Sunday, January 22.
The new smartphone plans include: ● AT&T Data Plus 300MB: $20 for 300MB ● AT&T Data Pro 3GB: $30 for 3GB ● AT&T Data Pro 5GB: $50 for 5GB, with mobile hotspot / tethering
Smartphone customers needing additional data can pay $10 per additional gigabyte on the AT&T Data Pro 3GB and Data Pro 5GB plans; AT&T Data Plus users will receive an extra 300MB for $20.
The new tablet plans* include: ● AT&T DataConnect 3GB: $30 for 3GB ● AT&T DataConnect 5GB: $50 for 5GB
Existing smartphone and tablet customers will have the choice of keeping their current plans or choosing one of these new plans, and the current $14.99 for 250MB plan for tablet customers will remain available.
"Customers are using more data than ever before," said David Christopher, chief marketing officer, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. "Our new plans are driven by this increasing demand in a highly competitive environment, and continue to deliver a great value to customers, especially as we continue our 4G LTE deployment."
For those wondering, the old data plans were 200MB for $15/month and 2GB for $25/month.
I wonder how this will affect data throttling for us unlimited guys? It shows AT&T recognizes that their previous data limits weren't enough for their customers...
Phil,
He was talkin about a GSM competitor. Verizon is on CDMA tech which sucks cuz is not as fast and limits u to only talk or surf at one time not simultaneously like GSM does.
Wow, possibly $40 for 600mb! or $40 for 4gb.
Why did they make it another $20 going over 300mb (for another 300mb) but only another 10 for going over 3gb (for another 1gb!)?
They should have said, go over 300mb we'll give you 1gb for $10. What a rip.
And ATT isn't the only company doing this. Verizon does crap like this and if they're not doing this pricing now, they'll match it soon enough. Always happens.
The reason they do this is so that people will switch to the higher plan and then AT&T will make that $10 extra a month. They designed these plans to get people to buy smartphones thinking that the lower data plan isn't that bad and they also think they'll never go over the 300MB. It isn't too long after they get the phone and the plan that they realize 300MB isn't enough and since they're under contract they are either forced to pay the $20 more a month when they go over or just pay the $10 extra a month to go to the higher data plan. Don't you just love these big corporations?
I curently have unlimited and am being throttled right now because I am at 2.2GB this month. I wonder if I should switch to the 3GB so they wont throttle me!!!!!!!!!!
HAHA!!
In sweden if you want an iPhone 4S , you pay 40 dollars a month, then you get free sms to all and free surf, and free calls to all operators! no limit at all!, and in that package is also the iPhone 4s....
at least something is cheaper in europe than in america :D
In Sweden a way of life isn't even close to the USA..try find an Apt in Sweden.
You take Levis Jean 501 to your country you will get all the girls..

This is a great way to force the new subscribers to the new $30 plan.
It is a trap: most people use more than 300Mb but less than 2Gb, so they going to have to go with the 3Gb plan since they won't have the 2Gb option any longer.
That's $5 more per subscriber into at&t's pocket.
Shady company = shady tactics.
