Amazon is airing a new commercial that directly compares the iPad's Retina Display to the Kindle Fire HD's display.

Our newest commercial shows iPad with Retina Display and Kindle Fire HD 8.9" side-by-side. Both have large, stunning HD screens. In fact, you may not be able to tell the difference... but your wallet definitely can. Meet the new, larger Kindle Fire.

The add is good to catch the interest of the rookie users. If you see that add and you do not know anything about tablets for sure you are going to think about it but, once you use both, you won´t have doubts that Ipad is much better in most of the benefits.

Of course you can't see the difference when watching a video of them on a TV. When holding them in person, it's pretty easy to see it in the text quality, etc.

Notice how they compare the price to the iPad and not the same size equivalent (iPad mini) which is only 50$ more than amazons. Does it have the retina display? No but the quality of apps is so much better.

And talk about short term vision for the brand of kindle. Blatant admission of inferiority. Not good.

I can tell the difference right here in my toilet holding my iPhone 4 in portrait mode. I could probably tell the difference if it were showing the comparison in an icon size.

Kindle's certainly got a successful strategy of pushing competing technology at a lower cost, but like it's boss, Amazon, it does so as a calculated risk. Although Amazon has larger sales than anyone else in a variety of fields, it has substantially lower profits. That means that while they hire thousands of workers, they each risk job loss if Amazon can't make their profit margins each month. Amazon also pushes itself forwards on the backs of everyone else. It's underpaid staff, authors and publishers, retail outlets and independent producers of goods. They're making a lot of enemies, and that doesn't help anyone when things start going south.
