Lunecase Uses Electromagnetic Energy Generated By the iPhone to Display Notifications [Video]

Lunecase, now seeking funding on Kickstarter, uses electromagnetic energy generated by the iPhone to light up notification icons on the back of the case.

The Lunecase is the first intelligent iPhone cover. The case knows and identifies when you receive a message or a phone call before it is even displayed on the iPhone's screen. The Lunecase will identify the type of notification, whether it would be an incoming call, or a text message. The case displays these notifications on the back of your smartphone with the help of LEDs, using the free energy that is emitted by the device, converting it from the natural iPhone's electromagnetic energy into a usable energy to power the notification system embedded in the Lunecase.

“Accessories made for the iPhone can sometimes take the beauty and easy functionality away from the phone,” said Concepter founder Vlad Tislenko. “Lunecase brings the back of your phone to life and enhances the natural iPhone functionality with no batteries, no cords and no bulk.”

Early bird pledgers can get the Lunecase for $35. It's expected that the case will ship in August. The project has a funding goal of $50,000. So far over $20,000 has been pledged with 36 days to go.

Take a look at the video below for more details....

It proves how useless people may seem about this. I mean what's the point of the case when you have the screen to tell you everything about a notification?

Authors do not realize that induction coupling (energy harvesting) at a distances smaller than RF wavelength actually reduces transmitting power. Google "induction energy stealing" for more info.

Because the case is not made by Apple, that's the reason most people don't like or want the case

Now incorporate that into a premium leather flip case and it becomes a must have accessory.

Nice idea but if someone was trying to fake a call this would be a dead giveaway, or if you put your phone away to be with your girl on the side and wife keeps GLOWING up your phone, you're screwed.

wow. i thought he was speaking in another language. talk about thick accent. in russian, case wears phone. sort of solves nothing. only if you have to put your phone facing down but who would. to add to that, iPhone already has a led notification. it's nice to know the tech is out there but it needs to be for something really useful. or just for bling. for example, it glows an apple symbol just like a macbook when on a call. i'm guessing they cannot use apple's symbol. so this is what i propose. first, make it into a back sticker. next just make a glowing square shape. then, offer different shapes or logos by sticker to cover said glowing square.

Why do I need that if I an easily see the notification right there on the screen?

Where does this "energy" come from? Transmissions from the phone? So I lose some of my transmit power but I have a little indicator on the back? No thanks.

Gotta love how all these kickstarter videos look just like an apple keynote video. Look at the second guy in this video he mimics Jony Ive to a T.

That "free" energy all comes from the battery.

Not quite. Electromagnetic waves are normally emitted from your iPhone when it's being used. They come from the wifi and cellular components. We know from science that magnetic waves will generate a current when exposed to a conductor, i.e. power is generated in said wire. Because the case uses such low energy, they can take advantage of the already emitted electromagnetic waves and generate enough electricity to power the case. Because these waves are being emitted normally, no power is taken from the phone.

Does the link quality between phone and tower not decrease when you parasitically intercept the electromagnetic waves? Wont that force the phone to emit more powerful waves? Wont that drain the battery?
