Hi, I also unlocked using QuickPwn for windows. I'm running 2.2.1 and want to upgrade SO MUCH! But something with the dev team for QuickPwn means they've stopped developing QuickPwn so I was wondering whether I could upgrade to 3.0 and then unlock using redsn0w? would that work okay? has anyone else tried this? Thanks!

I upgraded my unlocked 2G iPhone. Works fine except no YouTube. Also, the battery seems to die extremely fast when I am outside. No data plan but I think the phone is trying to connect all the time or something. Maybe I need to hack the apn settings?

you need to add your APN setting back again - same thing happened to me
battery life got better but you have to turn off wifi

I upgraded my iphone 2g to 3.0 and everything went well, until my battery drain 1/4 almost in 2 hours, when usually last up to 48 hours with wifi on, so I decide to downgrade back to 2.2.1, it took a many tries to get itunes to not report 1600 error and use pwned again, but work, i am wondering if any one has had a short battery life after upgrading????

I also have the crazy battery drain - less than 4 hours down to nothing.
I will need to go back soon if no fix is on the horizon soon.

BE CAREFUL!!!
I have (more precisely, used to have) a jailbroken and unlocked 2G iphone (using Pwnage Tool, to 2.2.1). I use a Mac, followed Vinay's instructions exactly on ihackintosh.com, updated (not restored) to 3.0 AND NOW MY PHONE IS BRICKED. And I can't downgrade back because I can't download iTunes 8.1 anymore (even oldapps.com doesnt have it, only 8.2). SO IF YOU HAVE A MAC, PLEASE BE MORE PATIENT THAN ME AND WAIT FOR THE NEW RELEASE FROM THE DEV TEAM!!!!

Samething happened to me, Does that mean my iphone 2G is completely useless now? or do I have to wait for the new PwnageTool via dev team. This sucks.

hopefully we just have to wait for the next Pwnage, which should be coming out any moment. Otherwise, its back to the stone age.
i just wish i waited and didn't trust what Vinay wrote. I was suspicious to just update on iTunes without anything else, and my suspicions were unfortunately confirmed. But its my mistake

How can I see if I unlocked my 2G iphone with quickpwn or Pwnage?
It has been a long time since I did it, and last time I jailbroke it with quickpwn, but I can't remember if I also unlocked it since is was already unlocked.
I didn't jailbroke it since last update (2.2.1 I think) via iTunes.

WARNING: Battery jadi cepet abis.Silakan dicoba sendiri, asal siap tanggung resiko sebab semua jailbroken apps hilang!!!
Following the warning, I successfully upgraded my 2G to OS 3.0. Seems like the battery drops too fast...!!!

I had Pwnage 2.2.,T-mobile and the upgrade right from Itunes - lost all Cydia and apps and can not connect to Youtube - all other functions work.
Landscape mode is not but since all my Jailbroken apps are gone - I would wait for Pwnage 3.0 version

Same thing here...upgraded my 2g iPhone to 3.0 firmware (I had unlocked it with the Pwnage Tool). Everything works perfectly but I lost Cydia, Installer, Youtube and I can't access my TZones data via Edge (argh!).
Oh well, no worries...at least I didn't get bricked.

I have a 2G that is unlocked and jailbroken with 2.2 on it now. I used Pwnage Tool to do the unlock/jailbroke. I am an AT&T customer, but do not want to pay the 20 bucks each month for the iPhone service. I am happy with just using the internet functions when I have wifi connection. If I go to itunes and upgrade to 3.0 will I have to then pay the $20.00 per month or will I still be unlocked and jailbroken?

Hey, so just a little heads up, don't be stupid like I was.
I updated my iPhone, but before I had updated it, I had my apps in categories using the app Categories (I don't even know why 'cos I don't even like the app.) Anyways when my iPhone was done updating it booted and to my surprise (don' t ask me why I wsa surprised 'cos I shouldn't of been.) all the apps that had once been inside my categories were gone. Just like that. And also inside the dock using SB settings. Gone. And now my iPhone is not jailbroken so I can't access the root folder through iPhoneView. So I will be stuck restoring tonight. Which was what I was trying to avoid doing in the first place. So just a little head up, if your using categories and SB Settings dock for your apps ROMOVE THEM BEFORE UPDATING!!!!
Oh and if anyone has any tips, please don't be shy:)

winpwn hasn't been used with the iphone since like 2.0.1... so no, that won't work.
just find an ipsw that was made with pwnage.

since you don't have a mac, you only have two options. 1. download an ipsw that was made using pwnagetool on a mac for the iphone 2g that is unlocked & activated OR 2. find a friend that has a mac and pwn your phone with it.

Put my name on the success story. I have 2G phone with Fido which is not the official carrier at all for 2g phones. Downloaded the upgrade from Apple in iTunes 8.2. My phone was 2.2.1 done with Pwnage Tool. At first I got an error that I could not connect to the activation server, I turned off the wireless. Update went in as it always does. My phone works just fine. Then I had a message that there is an update for the carrier available but since the activation server is too busy that did not go in. All works though.

So... for those that have done it successfully... Is it worth it to be un-jailbroken again?
i have a lot of stuff done to my iphone that I'm not sure I want to give up yet. (such as fontswap, winterboard, various other tweaks) But if it's completely awesome & worth it i'll do it.

if you've GOTTA HAVE IT, then download a custom firmware (or make one, since you have a mac) and pwn your iphone again using pwnage tool & update. you wont lose your unlock or activation that way.

activation: being able to use your iphone, period. itunes makes you activate your phone before you can use it. quickpwn & pwnage allow you to bypass activation if you are not on an official carrier, such as t-mobile us.
unlock: being able to use another carrier's sim card in your iphone. say i bought an iphone in the us & want to use it on t-mo us, then i would have to unlock it in order to get a signal.
jailbreak: allowing yourself access to the iphones file system, which allows you to install 3rd party apps that AREN'T in the app store & make tweaks and fixes to get your phone how you like it.

QuickPwn user can also retain their unlock but they have to do a little work by downgrading to firmware 2.0.2 then unlock with QuickPwn RC3. Once your iPhone get unlocked on firmware 2.0.2 simply do a update to 3.0 Voila activation remains but there will be no jailbreak.
Tested and worked on my iPhone 2G QuickPwned
