Do I really need to restore my phone for this to work? I followed every single step except for that one, it took about 10 minutes for my phone to reboot, I didn't have any problems, but after the reboot my phone turned back on and it's as if I never jailbroke it. Nothing changed my phone is completely normal what is this jailbreak thing supposed to be like? What did I do wring?

Guys: thanks for all the trouble but your redsnow app does not recognize the 3.0.1_7A400 ipsw, and it takes forever(!) to restore the backup which you have to do in order to re-restore to the 3.0_7A341. This adds to the insecurity of the whole enterprise, I'm getting really queasy feelings now...

Happy to report that after restoring my iPhone and restarting the process with the 3.0_7A34.ipsw image, it all worked fine. As someone noted, it got stuck (for more than 15 mins) in the reboot process, but uplugging and plugging back into the USB unstuck the process. It took about 1hr+ to restore the entire iphone after that (simply restore to the previous backup in iTunes) and I was jailbroken and back to my former data. A very happy customer! I was able to VoIP on skype to France for 15 mins for less than 55 cents. Thank you guys!

I believe the firmware for the iPhone 3g link is incorrect... it links to iPhone2,1_3.0.1_7A400_Restore.ipsw for the iPhone 3GS it should be iPhone1,2_3.0.1_7A400_Restore.ipsw correct?
jose - October 3, 2009 at 1:58am
i download the ipsw but a bunch of files are in the folder. i cant select any and it dont look like the box ipsw please help!!!!!!!!

Please somebody answer me!!!! Can I use this tutorial to jailbreak and then unlock my iphone? I just bought new iphone 3g(at&t carrier) firmware 2.2.1 modem 02.30.03. I really need to know because I already made useless my last iphone so I don't want to do the same with new one.
Jay - October 3, 2009 at 12:46am
Hi! If I'll do jailbreak from this tutorial will it make my baseband 04.26.08 which I can use to unlock my iPhone 3g firmware 2.2.1 modem 02.30.03 bootloader 6.02 ?
millca - September 28, 2009 at 10:56pm
I'm purchasing a refurbed, unactivated iPhone 3G from ebay. I do not know what version of the OS it already has installed on it. IF it already has 3.1 installed on it, will I be able to unlock and jailbreak it to T-Mobile?
DAX - September 29, 2009 at 12:30am
if it comes with anything higher than the 3.0.1 at this time...jailbreak yes.......but unlock no.. enjoy
millca - September 29, 2009 at 12:41am
That's certainly GREAT to know -- I'm glad I lost that last ebay bid then. Okay, so my #1 question to any ebay or craigslist iPhone 3G seller should be: What version of the OS is currently on it? If they have already upgraded to the latest 3.1, then I should avoid it, correct? I only have T-Mobile so I must get an iPhone that is unlockable. If they are already selling an unlocked 3G iPhone, then I should be good to go, correct? Do I need to ask them HOW they unlocked/jailbreaked it?
DAX - September 21, 2009 at 12:13am
3G w/ 3.0.1 Using Mac Book Pro Yes....if you got stuck in the rebooting part...unplug the usb and plug it again..it will work nicely....I;ve am doing it right now...phone still installing the bundles,,,,, I had to use the A341 restore ..not the A400 restore,,,,,Red Sn0w would not recognize it....... And yes, it also sync'ed all my data without asking if it was a new phone or not..... Thank you guys.....all you have ti fix is the glitch that the red snow nos the Panage tool recognized the A400 restore you download form the iClarified or the mirror sites...but it works perfectly...not to unlock the Phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've got an iPhone 3GS 32GB which came out of the box with 3.0.1 I've just used Redsn0w 0.8 to jailbreak. Used the 3.0 firmware and it worked absolutely fine. I followed the YouTube video from iPhoneinCanada (video 17pv60vVuh0). My phone had not previously been jailbroken. Hope this helps someone. I spent the last hours reading through comments and eventually decided to bite the bullet. Won't pretend I wasn't nervous... Good luck.
DAX - September 29, 2009 at 12:34am
hi K, but did you unlock it....I agree with you ...yes it works perfectly on the JB..but according to my not expert results...it did not work for the 3.0.1 unlock...had to downgrade it to 3.0 and then do the unlock.
K - September 29, 2009 at 1:28am
I haven't unlocked it. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hi, I'm having the "unable to recognize specified ipsw. I've read all the posts here and noone has yet solved the problem. Can anyone help?? I've tried doing it many times already. i've tried with both restores.
alex - September 13, 2009 at 11:07am
you should load the 3.0 file even if you've installed 3.0.1

Hi, Yes, I tried using both the 3.0 and the 3.0.1 versions already. All had the same result. unable to recognize specified ipsw. Anyway, I jailbreaked it successfully using pwnagetool.

judt restore again woth A4000 bundle, it will work fine.
GJM3 - September 3, 2009 at 1:59pm
Excellent site. I've now jailbroken my iPhone 3 times and have found no problems EXCEPT I've lost my visual voicemail. Is this common with anyone. I've done the reset network thing and its never worked, but thought someone would know about the VVM problems... By the way, doing a restore does un-jailbrake your phone and will restore the VVM (make sure you shut down all the way). It'll take your through the VVM set up, but everything will still be there. good luck and thanks for any help. (Jail broke on SnowLepoard.

So got the 3g all unlocked and everything goes well except after the unlock I only have sound through the headphones or the speaker phone if the headphones are not plugged it. Any Ideas????

I have an ipHONE 3g and I'm following the steps. I have made it to the reboot but my phone is frozen white. What do I to get past this ? MAC - SNOW LEOPARD - 3G 16 gig
Beil - September 2, 2009 at 10:31pm
Try unplugging the iPhone's USB cable for 3 seconds and then plugging it back in. That should get the process going again.
Dii - September 9, 2009 at 5:19pm
I had to unplug it and plug it back in as well. It sounds counter intuitive, but it worked.
Priyanshu Patel
Priyanshu Patel - September 21, 2009 at 11:11am
unplug the cable and plug it again. will recon the iphone and start the process from there itself.
M - September 2, 2009 at 4:20am
Hey when you upgrade to 3.0.1 and then unlock ... do you keep all your contacts etc etc? Thanks
Beil - September 2, 2009 at 10:35pm
If, when asked, you restore from the back up made, then yes, your contacts, photos, notes etc should be returned to your phone.
cytokine - August 30, 2009 at 9:00am
AS PER CYDIA: Users jailbreaking iPhoneOS 3.0.1 with redsn0w 0.8 will need to select a 3.0 IPSW (3.0.1 is close enough to 3.0). And if your iphone hangs when it says "waiting for reboot" on redsn0w, simply take the usb from the iphone out and plug it back in.
Sujan - August 31, 2009 at 9:18am
The screen freezes in waiting for reboot and unplug-plug does not work. Any more ideas? Would be grateful. Using Vista 32-bit running redsn0w as admin.

Beil - September 2, 2009 at 10:37pm
Which .ipsw are you using for the redsn0w verification step? If you're using the 3.0.1 one that you first restored with, it won't work. You will need to use the 3.0 file that is also referred to at the top of the tutorial.
Shaun - September 11, 2009 at 12:48am
I've tried doing that, but it still could not recognise.
poliny - August 23, 2009 at 7:34pm
hi, i just tried to unlock using redsnow, but when i come in the reboot screen my iphone freezes, i have read here to unplug the phone and plug it back in to solve he problem, this won't work for me. What can i do else to solve this? thnx!
Linda - August 23, 2009 at 8:55pm
For me, unplugging the USB connector on the phone then plugging it back in worked. is that how you did it?

Christian Gehrke - August 29, 2009 at 7:02am
Brilliant! Removing the cable worked perfect. ;) Cheers. Well, at least for me it did the job. iPhone 3G .
maie - August 1, 2009 at 6:37pm
ok just did this on my 3g it runs fine and everything's working apart from the sim card. i cant seems to get any sim cards to work. no phone signal no texts i have tried this on about 4 sims and nothing... i followed the steps again still nothing... the original sims wont work either. (i was with o2)
berkekibris - August 3, 2009 at 3:00pm
Thats probably because you jailbroke your iPhone. You need to unlock your iPhone, there is a difference. Search here on iClarified on how to unlock it. You need to download ultrasn0w from Cydia. Goodluck :D
Linda - August 1, 2009 at 3:14pm
I have been working on jailbreaking my iPhone for a couple of hours and am going in circles. It kept hanging up on the reboot and installing the RAM part of RedSn0w. Then I saw a post on another site saying if it hangs in that spot to unplug the USB cable and plug it back in. Well, now I can't get back to that spot because RedSn0w keeps quitting before I get there. I am not sure what the deal is. iTunes told me to update to 3.0.1, so I am doing that, but maybe I shouldn't?
jackdup - August 1, 2009 at 5:07pm
I had the same hang problem. I disconnected the USB from the iphone 3g, and reconnected it immediately. It worked, and redsn0w completed the process!
unixes - August 3, 2009 at 3:55pm
Upfate to 3.0 wit no problem. Will not affect you. After that follow the steps to jailbreak.I do it in the both ways with 4 iPhones and worked.
Linda - August 8, 2009 at 1:13pm
Got my 3G iPhone jailbroken and unlocked finally. Some of the problems I had originally turned out to be misunderstanding the directions posted here. I had already upgraded the firmware to 3.0.1 in iTunes but I was following the directions to use the downloaded firmware and it kept downgrading and restoring the iPhone. Now I realize if I already have the proper firmware installed from iTunes, I could have skipped that part of the process described here. Also, I did have to unplug the USB cable and plug it back in to get past the hang where it is jailbraking. That worked.

Luis Q. - September 9, 2009 at 10:46pm
So, are you saying that if I already have upgraded my FW to 3.0.1, i don't have to do the initial restore in iTunes with the 3.0.1 FW? I could just skip the restore altogether and just go straight to redsn0w? I ask, because I've been reading up on this and I've found that many people say I "should restore as new user".
TL - July 31, 2009 at 11:25pm
I followed the instructions and it successful installed Cydia. But everything else I had installed before (apps), are gone. Do I resynch with itunes to get them back?
Linda - July 31, 2009 at 6:01pm
Now that Apple just released the 3.0.1 updater for the iPhone, will these software hacks still work the same as with the 3.0?
Spike - July 27, 2009 at 11:49pm

I have confirmed that this jailbreak will work on a Mac PowerPC processor with OS X v. 10.4.11 (AGP graphics with 1gHz processor upgrade card branded Sonnet).

Just follow the instructions and it will work. If it fails, like it did with me previously, just try again and make sure you follow the directions. The missed step for me was to back up immediately before launching Redsn0w, and I made sure to quit iTunes before launching Redsn0w. Otherwise, everything worked perfectly. I now have Cydia and all the apps I have been longing for! :-D

Jailbreaking using iTunes 8.2.1 ... Are there any known issues or will it work seamlessly?
kato - July 21, 2009 at 8:58am
i tired jailbreaking my iphone last night. I have iphone 3g with 3.0 and itunes 8.2.1. It worked and lasted for a whole 2 hours..bummer huh? then it rebooted and stayed on the little apple and i tried everything to get it to work then i eventually had to put it in dfu mode and restore it...if u can get it to work without problems let me know and i will try again.

TazioBaker - July 11, 2009 at 4:00pm
Whenever I download the iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw it is zipped and when I try to use it with redsn0w it doesn't let me select it. When I unzip it, it becomes a folder and again I can not select with redsn0w. Help...
TazioBaker - July 11, 2009 at 4:49pm
I found the answer to my zip issue (Right click file go to Get Info and delete the ".zip" from the "Name & Extension". I have another problem now, my iPhone is not rebooting after I have done the 3 sec 9 sec 30 sec hold instructed by redsn0w. It's been "waiting to reboot" for at least 5 minutes.
gabry182 - July 13, 2009 at 4:21pm
dowload the file with firefox
TazioBaker - July 13, 2009 at 5:11pm
Hey Gabry182, I actually fixed that download problem from my second post, and found the solution to redsn0w's non responsive after the endless rebooting, I acidentally unplug the iphone and when i plugged it back it rebooted and all the downloading and bla bla bla started up correctly and now my phone is working PERFECTLY!!! It reminds me of the good ol' days playing with the Nintendo, physically hitting the console to make it work! hahahahaha
Wojak - August 11, 2009 at 6:54am
Use firefox

Currently in the process of troubleshooting after the jailbreak - but I've lost the signal to my carrier (Rogers) Any tips? reboot? walk into rogers? Also, after launching Cydia - it crashes when I go to "sections" and "manage". Any thoughts?
Mikey - July 4, 2009 at 8:37pm
Answering my own question just in case anyone else has this problem with not being able to connect to their carriers. I had to unlock the phone (tutorial also located on this site) and afterwards, it worked. Thanks "iClarified" - great tutorials and very easy to follow.
