This method worked very well for me. All good except one problem: My iPhone vibrates when I switch the silent button to ring but it doesn't when I switch it to silent. (This only applies to when I turn the silent switch, not after)

For everyone,download ipsw with Firefox.Don't even try it with Safari.I've try it two times with Safari from different locations and the same result.A lot of dmg and plist files.I've failed 2 or 3 times to put the iPhone in DFU mode but finally i did it and all worked fine.my iPhone was already officially updated to 3.0 and it has no problems to jailbreak.I used the last version of iTunes (8.02 i think).After the jailbreak i unlocked the iPhone.Also this worked smooth.After that i had some problems to connect the iPhone with the iTunes.All the time when i was connected the iPhone,the iTunes blocked.I tried to a windows machine and after a restart,6-7 intents and a lot of patiente,it worked and i installed Navigon cracked who was lateing about one hour but finally...happy moments.Now my iPhone 3G is on 3.0,unlocked,jailbreaked and with a GPS navigator which is working better than i was expected.In all these processes i just flowed very carefuly all the steps writed in the tutorials from iClarified.Hope all this help someone. I have jailbroken iPhone at least 20 times. I just replaced my iphone with warranty from Apple. When i try to jailbreak the phone, it does not reboot after its in DFU mode. I just get black screen and redsn0w saying "waiting for reboot" What can I do?

I have a problem. I've gone through the whole process of jailbreaking, but got stuck at the end with a picture of Steve Jobs with his hands up in the air saying something in Russian. I've restarted the phone but keep getting the same image. Anyone please help.

iPhone 3G was running JB 2 firmware with YellowSn0w but with a real provider here in AUS - O.p.t.u.s. so really didn't need YellowSn0w but installed it anyway. Wow really cares what was on it previously cause the restore wiped all that crap off. Restored to Firmware 3.0 without issue as per instructions. Ran RedSn0w 0.72 on a PPC Mac running OSX 10.4.11 as per instructions. SIM card left in phone but SIM has a lock on it. RedSn0w ran without a hitch. Phone went through the motions and then asked for my SIM unlock. Did that and carrier pops up on the screen. RedSn0w ran PERFECTLY. Chose ONLY Cydia (I don't trust ICY and if you install both need your head read) as per instructions. Basically I did exactly what I was told. Worked a treat. Ran Cydia and updated Cydia (after putting my WiFi details into the settings) then installed UltraSn0w repo as per instructions on this website. Installed fine and carrier came up again. Everything ran perfectly. Please note that I had a backup of my iPhone with the firmware 2 stuff still on it and when I tried to restore from backup I lost things off my screen. I was toooo lazy to find them so I just ran through the process again. :) This issue has nothing to do with the hacking but it is something to consider if you are thinking a backup can be just slapped back on your phone. :) My thanks to the Dev Team and to iClarified for a flawless walkthrough. Where would I be without you both? Right poorer and wouldn't have any crap on my Mobile. :) Cheers...

IF ANY ONE COULD HELP PLZzzzzzzz... When I was doing Step 2, i didn't hold the Option button, I just clicked the Restore button and continued all the steps. Now my Iphone is not showing the carrier. (I can't call or receive any call) WHAT SHALL I DO??????????????????????????????????????

After jailbreaking, you are ready to unlock your iPhone using UltraSn0w. iClarified has posted another good tutorial on how to unlock your iPhone Using UltraSn0w.

yes, you do. Only works on Itunes 8.2

I believe in updating and backing up everything first. That way if anything stuffs up when you ask questions everyone you talk to is on the same page. :)

I was able to torrent redsn0w of of Dev-Team site, i created the pWanage Folder but when I clicked the link to download the firmware I dont get the nice little "LEGO" box. Instead I get a bunch of .dmg and plist files that when using my MacBook 10.5.7 and latest itunes I cant map to it. -i did option=click but unable to select open Please HELP!!! Thank you

I figured it out. In iTunes hit the restore button and, back up your current phone and unplug as its doing the process. This will save the firmware in your home>library>iTunes folder. Then just drag it to the desktop. Thanks anyway

PS some information to share with you if you have the same Iphone:))) mine experience First : make sure you have Itune 8.2 Upload the correct Firmware of your Iphone 3g ... save everything in the desktiop and created a floder Iphone JB 3G RnOw ... when you have itune 8.2. Swift of your phone : press on home and off Button and Itune will appears ( if not open Itune). Click on restore and ALT button , and put in there the firmware that you save in the floder . wait. If you have a error message (10 error Dont pay attention it happen to me and it works) open the RenOw Floder and folow the steps easy really i did it and it is working now ... When you click the link to get RedSn0w, right click on it an then click on "Save Link As" and then you can save it properly. Just clicking on it won't work! "RIGHT CLICK IT" and then "SAVE LINK AS"

That is actually "Download Linked File As" cause you are actually talking to people using Apple Mac's not PC users. :) And I actually recommend using 0.72 which is available on the DevTeams site under their official torrents list. :)

I have well installed all stuff and at the last point "waiting for reboot" I was waiting during 20 minutes but nothing happened! I am very sad :-(

the probem is that apple have with their update for OSX 10.5.4 installed a fix that disables Iphone go into DFU mode ( reboot ). You find someone who has XP and jailbrake it that way

I just unplugged the iPhone and plugged it right back in with redsnow still running. Plugging it back in caused it to reboot and it took off from there

i try also with the 8.0 itune did not work. Just upload 8.2 and it will work. it happen to me also and i did it today. make sure you have 8.2 :))

I have noticed several people with the same problem I am having but no one seems to be answering it. When we do step 1 and extract the redsn0w application from the RedSn0w zip file to the Pwnage folder. Firefox opens Opera and it shows redsn0w-mac_0.7.zip on the down load screen but it doesn't progress or download in any way can some one its just stuck at 0.0% Some one please help us with this. I would like to use redsnow rather than Pwang Tool though I dont know the difference just read on here that its better. I am using Mac Pro Desktop Version 10.5.7 all software up to date please help!

All you have to do is right click and it and use "save link as" and it can choose to save it wherever and it will work

Guys Thank you so much, thank you Dave Team, my iphone 3G is now working, Ok so i didnt have an original sim card and my iphone was restored so it was saying please inset the original sim to activate, screw that, just connect your phone to the comp, switch it off, then hold the power and home button for 2-3 sec, then release power keep holding home button until i-tunes finds your phone in restore mode. From there Hold Options and click the Restore button, now follow the above Dave Team instructions slowly, you`ll be home and dry, if you fail to enter the DUF mode dont go back to 1 keep trying there until you enter, and the other thing keep holding the home button until it saes finish. I`m happy guys, love you all

It is necessary to update iTunes to 8.2 before making restore! I managed to JB only on 8.2

this has bricked my 3g does anyone else find themselves stuck at the waiting for reboot? i tried to create a custom ispw using pwnage and all i get is error 1601 when trying to get itunes to recognize the dfu'd phone and restore from the custom firmware i assume that is the same thing going on in the background when redsnow cant get past waiting for reboot - its not really in dfu mode this sucks any help much appreciated

i had the same problem ignore the error message ( error 10 is on itune) open Ren0w : and follow the steps trust me i did it and it works Mine Iphone 3g is working try 2 times and it works :)))))

Edited: Hey! be careful, follow all this steps works fine, but take care about your stuffs in your iPhone, will be erased. Make a backup to photos, apps, music or anything u want before proceed.

i had previously jb my 3G iphone with pwnage tool to fw 2.2 (i had not used yellowsnow before). now that fw 3 is available, what is the best way to create & install the customised fw3 onto the 3G iphone? redsnow or pwnagetool? if i use either, will my existing data/settings/3rd party apps be erased? is there a way to prevent these to be erased when i update to the latest customized firmware?

When I download the .ipsw zip file it automatically opens as a folder - so I am unable to find the .ipsw Am I doing something wrong - or is there something I can do different? Thanks for any help.

right click on the ipsw.zip and click more info then under name and extension remove the .zip

Kris -- Use Firefox do not use Safari; to download the ipsw file!!! Open the download folder (where ever you have defined it) and find the file..

it is in the trah folder

If you are using a Mac: secondary click on the file, go to get info and in the name of the folder erase .zip and ok on use .ipsw, that will show the file ready to use. If you are using windows, right click, and follow the same steps.

the best thing to do is upgrade to the most recent version of Mac OSX which is 10.5.7 I believe and run the course of actions as described about how to JB it. I did it and it worked out great for me

i have the same Mac OS 10.4.11 AND it works fine with me you dont need to do any upgrate trust me i did it only upgrate is Itune 8.2 and make a backup of your iphone in any case but i did it and it works cheers:))))

Guys I got stuck and step 6 as well. I then went ahead and held down power and home for about 10 seconds until i got the logo. i cancel red snow did duf again hit next and it worked

To restore the iphone hold option and press restore on mac not shift..

This is most important and glaring piece of data. PLEASE everyone take note. You must hold down the ctl button NOT shift. The editors should make a note and change this before people start bricking their phones.
