Basically the above is your 'be a tool' app list. VLC is the only one I even have in my phone and even that's basically a 'just in case' app. Signal is the only messaging app you really need, maybe Colloquy for IRC (and set a private bouncer somewhere so you get push messages). Similarly forget Dropbox and get a private or hosted ownCloud account (and the belonging mobile client app, if you're lazy). Replace the use of Safari with Dolphin or Ghostery, possible Firefox if you must. Better maps exist than Apple or Google, look them up specified to your needs (offline maps with separate city/country based downloadable maps is a must, CityMaps2Go fills my needs). Find a decent VOIP client and a free provider (not everyone uses FaceTime). And if your're really into it then just JB whenever you get the chance and find a whole better ecosystem than Apple. Just to get Kodi is worth it but the possibilities to really make the phone finally yours and forget all the app sandboxing and Apple dictated restrictions is a cornucopia that just keeps on giving.

how much where you paid to come up with this list? Except for maybe VLC none of these apps has any special value other than lock you into something and either pull your money out of your pockets or sell your data to the world... I guess it's the worst list that can be.

It's a list! What? The list should be of apps that serve your needs and make no money for their developers? You think you're the king of everyone?
