iPad Air 3 to Feature 4K Display, Up to 4GB of RAM, Improved Battery Life?

Apple is reportedly preparing a new iPad Air 3 for unveiling in March that would have a 4K display, up to 4GB of RAM, and improved battery life, reports DigiTimes. The company is said to begin production of the device in Q2 with General Interface Solution and TPK Holding supplying touch panels.

The new 9.7-inch device will reportedly come equipped with a 4K resolution panel and up to 4GB in RAM, in addition to improved battery life. GIS will be responsible for LCD modules and touch panels along with backlighting products while TPK will supply touch panels, the makers said.

Notably, the new iPad Air is not expected to feature a 3D Touch display, according to the report.

The makers said they expect a slight on-year increase in demand for touch panel products from Apple in the first half of 2016 due to orders for products equipped with 3D Touch despite the new iPad Air not coming equipped with the technology.

Recently, a leaked diagram claiming to be of the iPad Air 3, revealed a rear facing LED flash and the presence of four integrated speakers at the top and bottom of the device.

I only hope it supports the Apple Pencil.

The Apple Pemcil won't work without the extra layer of the display that allows it to and the iPad Air both 1 and 2 didn't have it, and this one may not from what this says.

I highly doubt that they'll put 4k AND 4GB memory into next iPad for several reasons. 1st, they dont want the "normal" iPads to be better than their expensive iPad Pro. So the specs gonna be either similar or below iPad Pro's spec. 2nd, factoring in that iPad has 4:3 ratio screen, 4K means 4096x3072 resolutions. That's 1056ppi(pixels per inch) for 9.7in screen!! As of now, Samsung Galaxy S6 has highest ppi in smartphone/tablet with 576ppi. And thats with OLED screens. OLED has up and downs but apparently Apple is not willing to put into their devices yet. So 4K displays on iPad?? 4GB memory that can compete with their expensive version iPad Pro?? No thats not how the marketing works.

1. Upgrading the ram means more to people who want to get the most out of this iPad if that were to happen even when more of it meant getting multitasking capabilities. 2. I'd see how Apple would pull it off with 4K iPad. Hell the iMac has 5k and 4K. For a phone though, I see no purpose.

I think everyone knows the benefit of having more rams. The problem is that they dont want the lower tier iPad to be performed same as Pro ones. Pro is designed for performance and workstation. Apple is degrading their value if they decided to make iPad Air that is par with Pro.

Is 4K better than retina display in terms of ppi?

Way better. Retina on iPad is crystal clear, but 4K is 4x clearer.
