Despite Being Water Resistant, Liquid Damage to iPhone 7 Not Covered Under Warranty

Posted September 8, 2016 at 5:19pm by iClarified
Apple says that liquid damage to the iPhone 7 is not covered under warranty, despite the touting the device as being IP67 water resistant.

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are splash, water and dust resistant and were tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP67 under IEC standard 60529. Splash, water and dust resistance are not permanent conditions and resistance might decrease as a result of normal wear. Do not attempt to charge a wet iPhone; refer to the user guide for cleaning and drying instructions. Liquid damage not covered under warranty.

The iPhone 7's IPx7 water resistance rating means that it can withstand being in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes in lab conditions.

It's likely that once launched we'll see numerous torture tests that will demonstrate exactly how water resistant the iPhone 7 really is. No matter the outcome you should still avoid getting your iPhone near water because if damaged Apple will likely refuse to repair under warranty.

Because water proof and liquid resistant are two very different things and always have been. To date there does not exist a phone that is actually water proof, just water resistant (when I was running mobile device repair shops for about 6 years I saw countless water resistant device come in for water damage and the manufacturer wouldn't cover it under warranty simply because they never said it was water proof, so it was the fault of the owner for mistaking it as such)

Yes there is. Dual lens, stereo speaker, quad flash, a10 fusion processor, upgraded display, water resistance up to a meter, force touch home button (replaces pressing feature with force), expanded range of wireless.

Water resistant does not mean waterproof.

Every company that says their devices are water RESISTANT is the exact same way. If you try hard enough, you can get the phone wet. Take the sim card out and dunk the phone, it'll get wet
