10 Year Old Beats Face ID on Mom's iPhone X [Video]

Posted November 14, 2017 at 8:09pm by iClarified
A video has surfaced showing a 10 year old beating the Face ID security feature on his mom's iPhone X.

Attaullah Malik and Sana Sherwani had just set up their new pair of iPhone X smartphones with Face ID when their fifth grade son, Ammar Malik walked into the bedroom. "There's no way you’re getting access to this phone," Attaullah remembers his wife telling her son half jokingly.

Attaullah offered to let Ammar look at his phone instead but the boy picked up his mother's by mistake. A split second after he look at it, the phone unlocked, reports Wired. When Ammar tried to unlock his father's phone it also worked but only on the first attempt, which he has not been able to replicate since.

Apple says the probability that a random person in the population could look at your iPhone X and unlock it is approximately 1 in 1,000,000; however, the company warns that the statistical probability is different for twins and siblings that have similar features and among children under the age of 13, because their distinct facial features may not have fully developed.

Check out the video below or hit the link for the full story. If you're concerned about this, Apple recommends using a passcode to authenticate.

You are looking for a long wait, Apple made sure of it with their new anti jailbreak system which is two parts, 1) payments plan 2) always working on 2 new iOS upgrades at the same time which challenges and causes hackers to wait.

It wouldn't have worked, Apple forced us to change the parameters ( dots ) by less then a quarter of what our face recognition was built on because it was not fast enough for them, so please don't blame me.

%90 of security on your phone is set to protect your phone from family members. Nobody leaves their phones near unknown people or friends but people do with family. People dont loose their phone every day either.

No faceid or passcode was setup on that phone. Anyone can unlock the phone.

Wrong, her phone clearly used Face ID as a security tool, and it DOESN’T work. Maybe you don’t mind your ten year old examining every detail of your private life, or having free access to your finances, but most of us do!

Touch ID is still the best security for any device..

Let’s be real. Face Id is a gimmick.

Can’t you add more than one face like in the finger print feature?

You can’t. Unlike fingers, people only have one face. You’re not supposed to put other people’s fingerprint on the phone even though people do it.

Nope. Apple easily could have limited how many people can access Touch ID, but didn’t (I think it’s actually limited to 5 or 6). It was a conscious decision to limit the iPhone X’s functionality to a single owner.

Obviously face ID uses points of interest on the phone to allow the phone to unlock. Technically you probably find various family members that possibly have similar facial features and the phone will unlock. Nothing is

We already know what happens here. The son knows the passcode, tries to use Face ID, enters passcode several times as the A11 Bionic chips continues to merge his face with the one scanned until he can use his face. Similar to switching thumbs on Touch ID during the setup of a "single" fingerprint to where you can unlock with either thumb.

That is exactly what happened.
