The iPhone has captured a 46.1% of the domestic smartphone market in Japan according to research by Tokyo-based research company Impress R&D.
For this year, the iPhone 3G is the most popular device in the segment with 24.6%. It is closely followed by the iPhone 3GS which contributes another 21.5%.
Apple launch the device in Japan in summer 2008 and the iPhone is said to have reached a user base of 3 million Japanese customers, (10% of the global userbase).

i was reading this article on another site, and it mentioned while the iphone has almost half the smartphone market, that market is extremely small...

I was just in Japan for a month. I traveled all across the country. I only seen 1 person the entire trip using an iPhone. Strange.

Is this chart just the sales from apple to the phone companies stores in china? Or is this sells of people that have bought them from the stores?
