Leaked Document Compares HP Slate vs. Apple iPad

Posted April 5, 2010 at 11:47pm by iClarified
An internal HP document comparing the iPad and the HP Slate has leaked online and been posted by Engadget.

As we'd heard, the Slate will run $549 in its base configuration, which has a 8.9-inch 1024 x 600 capacitive multitouch display, a 1.6GHz Atom Z530 processor with UMA graphics and an accelerator for 1080p video playback (we're assuming it's a Broadcom Crystal HD chip), 32GB of flash storage and 1GB of non-upgradeable RAM. There's also a $599 version with 64GB of storage, and both models will have a five-hour battery, an SDHC slot, two camera, a USB port, a SIM card slot for the optional 3G modem, and a dock connector for power, audio, and HDMI out.

What do you think?

Let's hope HP does manage to get one out the door by June. Apple will then be forced into a much quicker version upgrade than currently seems the case. If the HP has a camera + webcam, SJ will have to respond before the holiday season purchasing rush takes off. (Just like the OS4 iPhone event is quickly announced for 4 days before MS releases their attempt to get some smartphone action.) The iPad should have had a camera to start with - it's slot is already there in the frame of the version 1 iPad; but Apple, as always, is fixated by the 'speed bump' upgrade process - adding 'must have' features one at a time rather than the best achievable from the start. ( although I bet part of this was to do with the potential impact of 1 million video chat users on an AT&T network that couldn't cope. A good first experience being better than one that attempts better but constantly 'drops out')

"Leaked"? Please. This and the earlier "leaked" video are all part of HP trying to purposely market something that doesn't exist. They don't have fan-boys with rumor sites like Apple does so they do this. Don't be naive. As for the product it will be great for the techies who don't mind tinkering & troubleshooting (and a crappy battery life). But for those who want it to just work and be simple to use the iPad is a better choice. I'm sure as Apple figures out how to do more in a stable environment with minimal battery impact the iPad will gain some of these features. If you just can't wait to Skype video chat then this will be a great option for you. That's what people who argue about Apple vs. Everyone else don't seem to get: it's not about which is a better product... it's about which is a better product FOR YOU.

Sir, u must be living in a communist country, by saying that "Apple knows whats best for you" you basically applaud their horrible closed minded practices and encourage their "we have to control you" attitude, way to go.

I think that would be awesome if it was big enough to actually read.

I think its better than iPhone OS 3.2 but not as good as Mac OS X. Wish HP would of come up with their own OS for it rather than the high resource demanding Windows 7.

W7 is not that bad, comparatives are good, just to give u the idea of running OsX (last kitten model) on a 1G ram dual core cpu (1.6G) is hard but i have no problem doing it on my hp with W7, and my laptop is 3 years old or more i think, W7 is not bad if u compare to OsX.
