Resideo has introduced the Honeywell Home X8S, a new smart thermostat that brings live video streaming right to the wall. The X8S blends HVAC controls with home security features and runs on Matter, making it compatible with Apple Home out of the box.
The headline feature is the built-in video feed: the thermostat can display live video from compatible First Alert and Ring doorbells and lets you talk to whoever's outside using two-way audio. Everything shows up on a five-inch touchscreen — the largest in its class — which can also switch over to weather, clocks, or indoor air quality stats when it's sitting idle.
For Apple users, Matter support means the X8S drops cleanly into HomeKit setups alongside Alexa and Google Assistant configurations. It connects over dual-band Wi-Fi and uses the familiar Honeywell Home UWP mounting plate, so it should fit as a direct swap for many existing Honeywell models. Controls work either on the thermostat itself or through the First Alert app.
The thermostat's sensors go far beyond temperature. It tracks humidity, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and estimated CO₂ levels to help homeowners keep tabs on indoor air quality. It also monitors HVAC performance in the background and can notify both the homeowner and their technician if it spots unusual behavior — giving you a chance to fix an issue before it becomes a major failure. Optional Smart Room Sensors can help prioritize comfort in specific rooms, and the system can automatically dial things back when no one's home.
Pricing and Availability The Honeywell Home X8S is available now for $219.99.
