Apple's rumored smart home hub has reportedly been postponed due to delays in Siri's Apple Intelligence upgrades, according to Mark Gurman.
In his latest newsletter, Gurman reports that the much-discussed product, codenamed J490, had initially been targeted for a March announcement. However, that timeline is now unlikely.
The smart home hub, featuring an iPad-like screen and home-control capabilities, is designed to serve as a central command point for household tasks. Gurman notes, "Apple has been planning to introduce the home hub in March, but it may take longer to reach consumers." This postponement stems from the device's integration with advanced Siri features, which are also delayed. As we previously reported, Apple has pushed its next-generation Siri upgrades, originally expected in 2025, potentially into 2026. The hub's operating system, codenamed Pebble, relies heavily on these updates, affecting its rollout.
Despite the delay, Apple has launched an internal testing program, allowing select employees to take the J490 home for hands-on evaluation. Gurman explains, "In the meantime, Apple has opened up an internal testing program for the home hub, allowing select employees to take it home and provide frequent feedback." This program will help refine the product before a public debut, ensuring it meets the company's standards and integrates seamlessly into its ecosystem. Recent rumors suggest that Apple is also developing a video doorbell and a security camera.
The J490, first detailed last year, promises a roughly 7-inch display, video call functionality, and flexible mounting options. With its launch tied to Siri's overhaul, we may learn more at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, when Apple typically details its future software enhancements.
