Apple Officially Delays More Personalized Siri

Apple has confirmed that its highly anticipated, more personalized Siri features will be delayed, with a rollout now possibly extending into 2026. The announcement, detailed in a statement provided to Daring Fireball today, reflects the company's ongoing struggle to deliver on its Apple Intelligence promises amid a fiercely competitive AI landscape.

Apple spokeswoman Jacqueline Roy shared the following update:

"Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly, and in just the past six months, we've made Siri more conversational, introduced new features like type to Siri and product knowledge, and added an integration with ChatGPT. We've also been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability to take action for you within and across your apps. It's going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year."

While Apple has made strides with Siri's recent enhancements, the delay of its context-aware, app-integrated version highlights a broader stumble. Unveiled in June 2024, Apple Intelligence aimed to revitalize Siri, but key features have been slow to arrive. Writing tools and voicemail transcriptions have trickled out since October, yet the advanced Siri overhaul—initially eyed for iOS 18.4 or 18.5—remains unfinished. Engineers now face a longer road to refine this ambitious upgrade.

The setback compounds Apple's difficulties in keeping up with rivals like Amazon's Alexa+ and OpenAI's ChatGPT, which have set new standards for conversational AI.
