Apple's MacBook Pro is expected to get its first OLED display in late 2026, with Samsung Display slated to begin mass production of panels in the second quarter of that year, according to The Elec. Samsung will supply the 14-inch and 16-inch OLED panels exclusively, with initial production estimated at two to three million units. Manufacturing will take place at the company's Gen 8 A6 factory in Asan, South Korea.
Samsung plans to start building prototypes later this year. Final component production for the panels isn't scheduled until the first quarter of 2026, and sources say delays remain possible if those parts don't meet Apple's standards.
The A6 factory can process 15,000 substrates per month, enough for roughly 10 million 14-inch OLED panels annually if dedicated entirely to that size. Only one of its two lines, each rated for 7,500 substrates per month, will be used for Apple's MacBook Pro displays. Unlike Samsung's iPhone OLED lines, this one won't be Apple-only. To keep the line running efficiently and drive down costs, Samsung is also in talks with other PC makers about supplying similar panels.
Omdia has already predicted that Samsung Display would join Apple's MacBook supply chain in 2026 as the market moves from LCD to OLED. If things stay on track, late 2026 could mark a turning point for the MacBook Pro — its first move to OLED and the most significant display upgrade since Retina.
