Major MacBook Pro Redesign With OLED, M6 Chip Not Coming Until Late 2026 / Early 2027 [Gurman]

A major MacBook Pro redesign won't arrive until late 2026 or early 2027, but it's expected to be a big one, featuring an OLED screen and the M6 chip, according to a new report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. That's the kind of significant overhaul he believes will finally move the needle for Mac users who have been holding off on upgrading.

In his latest newsletter, Gurman notes that the impressive performance of Apple's in-house silicon has created a new problem for the company: Macs are now so good, people aren't upgrading as often. He points out that many users, including himself, are still on M1-series machines because the gains from the M2, M3, and M4 haven't been compelling enough to justify the cost. It's a major shift from the Intel era, where performance often lagged after just a couple of years.

Before that major overhaul, however, Apple is planning a more incremental update. An M5-powered MacBook Pro is reportedly on track for an early 2026 release, but it's expected to stick with the same design introduced back in 2021. The timeline lines up with other recent reports and a previously leaked product roadmap, which also pointed to a spec-bump M5 model arriving before the redesigned M6 with its OLED display.
