Apple has officially launched Tap to Pay on iPhone in Singapore, allowing businesses to accept contactless payments directly on their iPhones without the need for additional hardware. The feature enables merchants to accept payments from contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets using only an iPhone and a partner-enabled iOS app.
The service is available to businesses of all sizes, from local street food stalls to large retail chains. Merchants need an iPhone XS or later running the latest version of iOS to use the feature. At checkout, the merchant simply prompts the customer to hold their contactless card or device near the merchant's iPhone, and the payment is securely completed using NFC technology.
Adyen, Fiuu, HitPay, Revolut, Stripe, and Zoho are the first payment platforms in Singapore to offer Tap to Pay on iPhone starting today. Grab is scheduled to add support for the feature early next year. The service supports contactless cards from leading payment networks including American Express, JCB, Mastercard, UnionPay, and Visa.
Apple emphasized that privacy standards for the new feature match those of Apple Pay. All transactions are encrypted and processed using the Secure Element, and Apple does not retain transaction information or card numbers on the device or its servers. With this launch, Tap to Pay on iPhone is now available in 50 countries and regions worldwide.
