iPad on iOS 5.1.1: Should I update now or wait for a future jailbreak?

I have a jailbroken iPad running iOS 5.1.1 and missed the signing window for iOS 6.1.2. Is it more likely that the next jailbreak will be for a current version, or for a version where the upgrade window has already closed? Should I stay on iOS 5.1.1 or update to iOS 7 in hopes of a new jailbreak? I would prefer not to lose my current jailbreak.

When deciding whether to update a jailbroken device, the safest rule is to stay on your current firmware until a new jailbreak is officially released for a later version. Jailbreaks are typically developed for the most recent signed firmware, but Apple quickly patches exploits with new updates. If you update to iOS 7 now, you will lose your jailbreak and there is no guarantee how long you will have to wait for a new tool to be released. Since you cannot downgrade to iOS 6.1.2 without saved SHSH blobs, remaining on iOS 5.1.1 ensures you keep your current tweaks and functionality until a definitive jailbreak is available for a newer iOS version.
