You can disable Background App Refresh, Location Services for unused apps, and turn off Always-On Display in the Settings > Display & Brightness menu. Also, enable Low Power Mode, keep your iPhone updated, and restart it after major updates to recalibrate battery performance.

Apple published a support document alongside the release of iOS 26 that notes users should expect a temporary hit on battery life as the device reindexes.
"Immediately after completing an update, particularly a major release, you might notice a temporary impact on battery life and thermal performance. This is normal, as your device needs time to complete the setup process in the background, including indexing data and files for search, downloading new assets, and updating apps."

If it persists, do a full backup, and then try a clean install.

The most effective way I have seen to stop battery drain across all iOS is to go to settings and hit setting reset.
You’ll have to set up ringtones, notifications and Bluetooth pairing again. But it does stop the drain.
However since the OS is new. Id wait for a few days before hitting a reset.

That’s actually a great tip — I’ve noticed the same thing after big iOS updates. Resetting settings really does fix a lot of weird background drain issues. I usually wait a bit too, since Apple tends to push quick patches. Meanwhile, I keep my phone on low power mode just to make sure the battery doesn’t tank.

Turn off the new visuals (accessibility -> display -> reduce transparency)
Other battery draining settings:
1. Background app refresh under general, feel free to stop all with no impact)
2. Always on display- turn off

iOS 26 battery drain is pretty common right after updating. Give it a couple days for the system to finish re-indexing. Then try turning off Background App Refresh, Always-On Display. And check which apps use the most battery in Settings → Battery. That fixed it for me on the iPhone 16 Pro.

It's really iOS 26's fault with battery drain. Hard to fix, you should return it. These new phone versions are really hard to avoid battery issues. I've seen very few battery drain issues on the iPhone 16 Pro.
