I am trying to restore my iPod touch 4th Generation because it is disabled and displays the 'connect to iTunes' message. I put the device into recovery mode to perform a restore, but I keep receiving Error 3194 when trying to install iOS 5.1.1. How can I successfully restore this device and resolve the error?

To fix the 'iPod is disabled' error on an iPod touch 4th generation while avoiding Error 3194, you must restore your device to the latest version of iOS supported by Apple. Error 3194 typically occurs because you are trying to install a firmware version that Apple is no longer signing, such as iOS 5.1.1.
1. Connect your iPod touch to your computer and open iTunes or Finder.
2. Put your iPod touch into Recovery Mode by holding the Power and Home buttons until the connect to iTunes screen appears.
3. When prompted by your computer, choose the Restore option rather than Update. This will download and install iOS 6.1.6, which is the final supported version for this hardware.
4. If you still see Error 3194, ensure your computer hosts file is not blocking Apple servers. On a Mac or PC, check your hosts file for any lines containing gs.apple.com and remove them, then restart your computer and try the restore again.
