I am looking for instructions on how to downgrade the iPad 2,4 model, which is the iPad 2 revision that shipped with iOS 5.1 and does not support earlier iOS 4 firmware.

The iPad 2,4 is the 2012 revision of the iPad 2 and it features a unique 32nm A5 processor. Because this model was released later than the original iPad 2, it is not compatible with any iOS 4 firmware. The earliest version it can run is iOS 5.1. Generally, downgrading this device requires that you have saved SHSH blobs for the specific version you want to install. If you do not have blobs, your options are limited. You might be able to use tools like LeetDown or Vieux to downgrade to iOS 8.4.1 or iOS 6.1.3 if those versions are currently being signed via the OTA window for your specific model identifier. However, many legacy downgrade tools were built specifically for the iPad 2,1, 2,2, and 2,3 models and may not support the 2,4 variant. Always verify your model identifier in iTunes or Finder before attempting a restore.
