I would like to know if there are ways to restrict, limit, or deny access to certain apps on an iPhone or iPad using a method other than the main lock screen password. For example, if I lend my phone to someone to make a call, how can I ensure they won't be able to read my emails, messages, or access other private apps?

To restrict access to apps on your iPhone or iPad, you can use Screen Time or Guided Access. If you are lending your phone to someone for a single task like a phone call, Guided Access is the ideal solution. Go to Settings, Accessibility, then Guided Access to enable it. Once active, you can triple-click the side button or home button within an app to lock the device to that specific app. To restrict apps more permanently, go to Settings, Screen Time, and select Content and Privacy Restrictions. Here you can toggle access to built-in apps or restrict content. You can also use App Limits under Screen Time to set a time limit on specific apps and protect those limits with a unique Screen Time passcode.

On older versions of iOS, you can go to Settings, General, then Restrictions. Here you can enable the feature and set a specific passcode that is different from your lock screen password. This allows you to restrict access to specific apps and features. For devices running iOS 12 or newer, these settings have moved to Settings, Screen Time, then Content and Privacy Restrictions.
