Ultrasn0w Not Working on iPhone 3GS iOS 6.1 With Baseband 06.15.00

I have an iPhone 3GS running iOS 6.1 with the 06.15.00 iPad baseband. I used RedSn0w to jailbreak and hacktivate, then installed the evasi0n untether via Cydia. I installed Ultrasn0w 1.2.8, but I still get No Service after inserting my SIM card. I have tried restarting the device and reinstalling Mobile Substrate, but nothing seems to work. Has anyone successfully resolved this issue on this specific firmware and baseband combination?

The issue you are experiencing is likely due to the 06.15.00 iPad baseband being incompatible with the signal search on iOS 6.1 for some iPhone 3GS units. The most reliable fix is to downgrade your baseband from 06.15.00 to 05.13.04 using RedSn0w. To do this, download the iOS 6.0 IPSW for your device (even if you are on 6.1). Open RedSn0w, go to Extras, Select IPSW, and point to the 6.0 firmware. Go back to the main menu, click Jailbreak, and then check the box for Downgrade from iPad baseband while unchecking Install Cydia. Follow the prompts to enter DFU mode. Once the downgrade is complete, verify your baseband in Settings. If it shows 05.13.04, you can then install Ultrasn0w 1.2.8 from Cydia, and your SIM card should find a signal immediately.

The most effective solution is to downgrade your baseband to 05.13.04, as the 06.15.00 iPad baseband often causes No Service issues on iOS 6 firmware.

1. Use the latest version of RedSn0w and go to Extras, Select IPSW, and choose the iOS 6.0 firmware (this is necessary for RedSn0w to recognize the 3GS).
2. Return to the main menu and click Jailbreak.
3. Uncheck Install Cydia and check the box for Downgrade from iPad baseband.
4. Put your device into DFU mode as instructed. Once the process finishes, your baseband will be 05.13.04. You can then install Ultrasn0w from Cydia to unlock the device.

If you want to keep iOS 6.1, you should always ensure you preserve the baseband during any future restores.
