Sonos today introduced two new speakers—the Sonos Play and Sonos Era 100 SL—marking a renewed focus on the whole-home audio system that made the brand a household name.
"Much of consumer tech promises innovation, yet too often delivers isolation—new devices replacing old ones instead of building on what already works," said Tom Conrad, Chief Executive Officer of Sonos. "We believe a great sound experience shouldn't reset every time you add something new. It should get better."
The Sonos Play, priced at $299, is designed as the brand's most versatile speaker. It's a portable model built to live at home but move seamlessly beyond it. The cylindrical design features a removable utility loop for easy carrying, weighs under three pounds, and offers an IP67 waterproof rating with up to 24 hours of battery life.
Inside, the Play houses a pair of force-canceling passive radiators for bass response, a midwoofer, and two angled tweeters powered by three class-H amplifiers. When on Wi-Fi with the microphone enabled, automatic Trueplay tuning dynamically adapts the sound to any environment, whether at home or on the go.
The Play can also group with up to three additional Play or Move 2 speakers over Bluetooth when away from home, a first for Sonos. At home, it sits on an optional Charging Base, and the battery is replaceable via a $69 kit.
The Sonos Era 100 SL offers a simpler entry point at $189. It's a mic-free version of the Era 100 with the same speaker configuration—two angled tweeters and a single midwoofer—so it's sonically matched to its sibling. The simplified design removes built-in voice assistant support while maintaining compatibility with the full Sonos ecosystem.
"We believe the first speaker you bring home should sound complete on its own, and become even better as your Sonos system grows," said Chris Kallai, VP of Product Creation at Sonos.
Both speakers are available for pre-order starting today at sonos.com, with general availability on March 31, 2026.
The launch follows a turbulent period for Sonos. The company faced criticism over a problematic app launch in 2024 that led to layoffs and a leadership change, with former CEO Patrick Spence stepping down. The board subsequently appointed Tom Conrad as permanent CEO last year.
