Participate in the World Cup Anywhere

Mark Lawton Design has announced the timely release of Soccer Near Me 1.0, their new World Cup celebration app for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The app allows the user to locate public places to view the matches on TV all over the world. Users can also list World Cup parties and events they are hosting. Lastly, fans can post news for each other: "I'm watching the game today at Al's Bar, come join the party!" The app features a zoomable world map with colored pushpins and soccer ball icons marking events.

The primary function of Soccer Near Me is to allow the fan to find places to watch the games on TV. There are over 900 bars listed all over the world, and they appear on a world map, allowing the user to scroll around, zoom in or out, and then click for the address. Participating bars are marked on the maps using a pushpin with a soccer ball on top. Another feature of the app is that it permits the fan to post his own event. So if the user is hosting a party at a hotel during the World Cup, all the other users of the app will be able to see that info. User posted events also appear as soccer balls on the map.

Finally, the user can post a more personal note and associate himself with one or more teams. Colored pins can be seen all over the world map, and each represents a user who has posted a personal message, such as "Go Brazil." A note by a Brazilian fan will show up as a yellow pin and a note by an American fan will show up as red. There are 32 countries in the World Cup with 32 different colored pins. The app includes a scrolling banner of all 32 country's flags, which are all selected by default. If, however, the user would prefer to exclude any listings regarding any particular country, he can simply de-select that flag.
