A manufacturing facility in Apple's supply chain has reportedly been renovated in preparation for the company's 20th-anniversary iPhone, which is expected to mark a dramatic return to a glass-centric design.
According to Weibo leaker Fixed Focus Digital, Apple's preferred approach for the upcoming "iPhone 20" marks a return to glass, with manufacturing techniques said to be comparable to those used for the original iPhone Air. The leaker claims the manufacturing facility has already been renovated and is now waiting for machining to begin.
The claim aligns with earlier reports that Apple is planning a dramatic redesign to mark the iPhone's 20th anniversary. We previously noted that Apple is developing anniversary iPhone models with a nearly borderless display that uses curved glass wrapping around the edges of the chassis. To achieve this seamless look, Apple is also reportedly evaluating a micro-curved, polarizer-less display that bends slightly on all four sides.
Fixed Focus Digital also recently claimed that Apple intends to stick with its current aluminum mid-frame design for traditional slab-style iPhones for the foreseeable future. If accurate, that would leave Apple's conventional iPhone lineup on its current design path while reserving a distinct glass-centric design for the 20th-anniversary model.
