Apple has reportedly laid off an entire team dedicated to VR development, affecting at least 60 employees tied to its Vision Products Group, as the company continues shifting resources away from enclosed headsets and toward AI-powered smart glasses.
According to a source speaking exclusively to AppleInsider, the layoffs affected employees from Apple's VR development team, the Apple Vision Group, and similar roles. Apple has not commented on the report. While the cuts reportedly eliminate an entire VR-focused team, the broader Vision organization has not been disbanded and work on Vision Pro and future products is expected to continue.
Apple's next major wearable effort is expected to center on camera-equipped smart glasses. The company is targeting a WWDC 2027 unveiling for the device, which is expected to rely on Siri and Visual Intelligence rather than an AR display.
