Apple Targets October 27 for Touchscreen MacBook Pro and OLED iPad mini [Report]

Apple is planning to unveil its first touchscreen MacBook Pro models and an OLED iPad mini around Tuesday, October 27, according to Bloomberg. The launch would be its second this month.

An online presentation and an in-person press gathering are planned, aimed at creative professionals. Apple declined to comment on the plans.

The redesigned notebooks are expected to be lighter than current models, with OLED touchscreens and a Dynamic Island. Earlier reporting has described 14-inch and 16-inch versions powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.

Software work is already visible in new touch-gesture references in macOS 27.2 beta 3. Touch is expected to complement the keyboard and trackpad rather than turn the notebook into a Mac-iPad hybrid.

Separate from that redesign, the lineup would include M6 versions of the existing 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac. Both would retain their current designs.

The iPad mini would get an OLED screen, a front-facing camera moved to the landscape edge and a revamped speaker system. The timing narrows the late-October to November window previously given for the tablet.

Leaked Apple artwork has already shown the relocated front-facing camera, while code references point to an A20 Pro chip replacing the A17 Pro in the current model.

Before the Mac and iPad launch, Apple will hold its October 13 'Welcome home' event. A display-equipped home hub, new HomePod mini and updated Apple TV are expected, alongside an accessory ecosystem involving LG and Schneider Electric.
