Apple Invites Media to October 28 Launch Experience in Los Angeles [Gurman]

Apple is inviting select members of the media to an all-day product launch experience in Los Angeles on October 28, according to Mark Gurman. The event is expected to introduce the company's first touchscreen MacBooks, a new iPad mini, and M6 Macs.

The invitation details update earlier reporting that pointed to a launch around October 27. Those plans included an online presentation and an in-person press gathering aimed at creative professionals.

The touchscreen MacBook Pro would be the largest design change in the notebook lineup, with OLED displays, a Dynamic Island, and a lighter enclosure. Both 14-inch and 16-inch versions are expected, powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.

Those redesigned models are separate from the M6 updates. Apple is also expected to refresh the existing 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac with the new chip while retaining their current designs.

On the software side, new touch-gesture references in macOS 27.2 have surfaced in apps including Photos and Notes. The references do not by themselves confirm a touchscreen Mac, since macOS also supports touch input through Sidecar, but earlier reporting has described a notebook interface that combines touch with the keyboard and trackpad.

The new iPad mini is expected to move from LCD to OLED, with a front-facing camera relocated to the landscape edge and a revamped speaker system. Leaked code has also pointed to an A20 Pro chip replacing the A17 Pro in the current model.

The Mac and iPad launch will follow Apple's October 13 smart home announcements, which introduced HomeView, HomePod mini 2, and a new Apple TV 4K.
