Apple Plans 9-Inch HomeView With Robotic Arm for 2027 or 2028 [Gurman]

Apple is still planning a higher-end HomeView with a motorized robotic arm for release in 2027 or 2028, according to Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter.

Known internally as J595, the device would pair a roughly 9-inch display with an arm capable of turning the screen a full 360 degrees. Voice recognition is intended to identify who is speaking and automatically turn the display toward that person.

The robotic version is being developed as an additional model in the lineup. No price or product name has been announced.

The current $299 HomeView was unveiled on October 13, with an A18 chip, 8GB of memory, and a 7-inch screen. Tabletop and wall-mounted models are scheduled to ship November 13.

Finished units of that first model spent much of a year boxed up in warehouses while Apple waited for Siri AI to be ready.

The display was designed around an assistant that could recognize different household members, retrieve their personal content, and respond primarily to voice commands.

The product had originally been aimed at a launch as early as the end of 2024. Targets then moved through spring, summer, and fall 2025 before further delays in 2026.

Gurman suspects the early inventory buildup may have helped Apple keep the price down by manufacturing the hardware before this year's memory shortage pushed up component costs.
