Germany Issues Security Warning for Apple Devices

A German government agency has issued an official security warning for Apple mobile devices, according to the Associated Press.

The Federal Office for Information Security said on Wednesday Apple's iOS operating system has 'two critical weak points for which no patch exists.' It said opening a manipulated website or PDF file could allow criminals to spy on passwords, planners and e-mails.

The security concern was highlighted after comex used the autoloading PDF feature of MobileSafari to jailbreak the iPhone, iPod, and iPad.

Users can somewhat protect themselves by installing PDF Loading Warner from Cydia.

An easier way to protect yourself would be to not to open random pdf files mailed to you from people you don't know. If you have a pdf you want to read, just open it via iBooks. And you should be careful opening websites anyway. Anyone NOT careful about opening random websites surely knows the penalty for this by now anyway. Come on, get real. This ISN'T the kind of warning any of us really need. Besides, I'm sure Apple will block this feature as soon as it's able - not to prevent malicious software, but instead to stop the jailbreak.
