neuralMuse has announced The Downlow 1.2, an update to their advanced text and image encryption app for iPhone and iPod touch. Using a proprietary algorithm, The Downlow empowers users to conduct discreet and private text and image based communications. Encryption keys are user created, and may be shared with other users of the app for secure, private information exchange. The Downlow Vault ensures safe storage of images and text. The app provides the user absolute assurance that their text and image files are readable only by those with whom they have shared their unique, secret cryptographic key.
As smartphones and mobile devices become more widely used, the problem of privacy becomes more pressing. During transmission, viewing, and subsequent storage images and text are vulnerable to both innocent and malicious discovery by unauthorized persons. The Downlow is a personal security utility that enables iPhone/iPod users to communicate with text and images that are encrypted using a custom encryption algorithm. The Downlow's security is very high, because users create their own encryption "Keys" within the app. Images are rendered to an unrecognizable block of seemingly random pixels, and can be sent through MMS and email. Text is unreadable once encrypted, and can be sent via SMS or email.
Feature Highlights: * Encrypt text to unreadable gibberish with a user-created encryption key * Send encrypted text to email, SMS, or the Vault * Only another user of The Downlow can unscramble messages using the encryption key * The app renders images unrecognizable * Lock images more than once for even greater security * Images can be sent to email, MMS, the Vault or photo album * Images can be captured from the iPhone's built-in camera and then encrypted * Photos stored in the Vault, saved files, or clipboard images can be encrypted * Password protection option * Create, store, and use multiple keys for use with different people * Simple to use GUI makes process of encryption and decryption straightforward
Creating Keys is simple, requiring only that the user enter a string of characters and a key name. Users may enter and store multiple Keys in The Downlow. To further enhance the discretionary nature of The Downlow, the application icon which appears on the user's device displays only the initials "DL". There are multiple settings that users can employ to enhance security, such as password protected launch, generic image loading on relaunch, hide key name of saved media in Vault, and don't load last message on launch.
"If there is any text or image on your iPhone or iPod that you wouldn't want anyone else to see, The Downlow is the perfect solution," stated Co-Founder Matthew McKinney. "Password protected files remain vulnerable; only powerful encryption affords true security."
Pricing and Availability: The Downlow 1.2 is $2.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Social Networking category. Review copies are available upon request.
